Only thing different about local compared to otr is you're home every day.You get right back out and ready to roll soon as your 10 hr brk is over. But on the plus side you can do your reset home and many local companies don't work on the weekends.

I personally would not recommend signing a contract for schooling through a large carrier unless you are certain this is the career move that you want to make. If you can find a community college close by that offers CDL training you are able to write the cost off on your taxes. If you truly want to drive a truck for a living, you have to realize that you are giving up a large part of your life for a career. YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY QUALITY OF LIFE BEING AN OTR TRUCK DRIVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Basic terminology that a recruiter will spew at you has a totally different meaning once you get hired. Most people hear weekends off and you picture getting home Fri. and going out with family or friends and then on Sat. taking the kids to the ball game and then on Sun. relaxing all day and watching TV. Weekend off in reality is getting home long enough to fulfill your 34hr. restart. Period. This is how a weekend off really works in trucking, Your 14hr. clock runs out on Fri. evening as you are heading to pick up your Mon. morning load. So you sit somewhere for 8 or 10hrs. waiting while not getting paid. So you get home Sat. morning around 10 or 11 and sleep until evening. Then you wake up pissed off because you realize your weekend is over. Sun. will usually be spent doing house chores, laundry and packing your food for the week. I hear people on here say all the time that trucking is not a job, it's a lifestyle, the fact is you need to remove life from the style part, because you will have no life. I'm just trying to let people know the basic fundamental truth's in trucking.

Well I live about 45 minutes from fayetteville, North carolina... about 2 and a half hours from charlotte and about an hour and a half from raleigh so as far as regional i believe estes is about it around here. however, there is a huge pepsi bottling distributor in fayetteville a small one in rockingham and a decent size coke place right here in aberdeen. but the problem is ethier im going to the wrong websites or these places like never hire anyone. however i dont think OTR is for me i love the idea but i'm 20 and a family man i want to be home nightly. or at least weekly from my understanding local would be pepsi, coke, cheerwine (sorry for northerners that don't understand the awesomeness of this product.) but the pay could be better and estes is regional you basically drive all over nc if im correct? and i dont think they have a school correct me if im wrong!

Did you ever call any of them and ask what they are looking for in a driver?

Look to get your schooling at a community college. I would look to pay no more than $2-$3K. OTR experience only counts when applying for an OTR job. Plenty of drivers including myself have gone their whole career without ever running OTR.

Here these guys are $1k for NC residents
