9 years at it,so they havent starved you out or anything, but 3k gross sounds like not alot...a fillup is 800'ish$, x2 per week, add in a trk payment and some extra's and youre looking at a POSSIBLE dollar menunaire budget.
2250 miles youre looking at roughly 1500$ in fuel for that week, maybe a trk payment of 300 if you average it weekly, maybe 300 into maintenance escrow, alot in tax's, 125 for health insurance.
sounds similar to other posts, from 500 net to like 900 net max in the bank after everything, as an average,if everything is going ok. i think i could do it because i rent out most of my house and i have no car payment, but im waiting, hoping to land a position where i dont take on the risk of paying for fuel and owning the equipment.

Is anyone still following this thread that can give me their opinion on the current condition of work at the Bethlehem, PA terminal? I'd love to own my own truck, and this seems like the best place to start out. I know a lot of people had bad things to say, but I was wondering if anything changed recently?
Thanks -
I cant give you current info, but a few years ago they were very busy. I worked out of Sandusky but went to help out there occasionally. Ran a lot of Hazelton area, Allentown,A LOT of Jersey and some Connecticut. I hope things have changed, but I really disliked working for TCS. Very controlling and at least at Sandusky weekend work was mandatory. I would work a full day, go home eat, sleep and leave. Didnt really leave a lot of time for family.
Blackducati750 Thanks this. -
After 10 years I just gave up. They kept getting worse. They used to have a waiting list to get on and seldom put new trucks on, now they have a revolving door. Cops look for them going down the road. I got pulled over 7 times in 6 months. Cops told me it's due to their safety rating. Now because of their safety rating, which is really due to their poor maintenance on their trailers, they have electronic logs, and you are required to use them. They keep hiring now, even when they don't have enough work to do. Drivers still there tell me it's seldom that they even get 4 days of work a week. They are always harassing you and don't care if you make money, it's all about them making money, they can replace you. That's the new attitude from management. One is better off with a company driving job.Pound Puppy and sedain Thank this.

Yes, I believe Billy is still the Terminal manager. And if he still is running the show, he makes a lot of threats over the qualcom. Things like, "If you're on the list to work this weekend and refuse, just turn in your permit book." Others also threaten you with your job. I talked to a driver that recently quit there, and he said he's never been to a company that treated him any worse than triple crown services. I've heard the same from drivers from other terminals, and experienced the same from the DFW terminal. I had a VP tell me that he was not concerned if the contractors made any money. Shortly later I quit, but still have lots of contacts there that tell me it's getting even worse.

Just got a call from these guys. Any word on weather it's worth it. I only need to bring home 7-800 a week after expenses. Me n the only owe on the house. Silvereagle where were u based out of and what happened to the guy that started this thread. The two drivers I talked to in person said they pulled in an average of 1100 a week sometimes more. Thoughts? I will be out of Fort Wayne

I was out of Fort Worth terminal, but they call it the Dallas terminal. My friends that are still there tell me it's gotten worse. They ding you for over speed on "your" truck, ding you "breaking", (which friends have said it's just when a car pulls out in front of you and you hit your brakes), you'll have to have a talk with safety. Also if you put "your" truck in the shop for any reason, even when you are paying the bill, you have to call and report it to Road Service. As one driver said, he was treated better, and had more freedom when he was a company driver for another company. In the last two weeks I've talked to 5 people that said they were going to quit. The only difference between a company driver and a TCS driver is the TCS driver gets to pay truck expenses and tax out of his own pocket. Average gross reported to me is between $1500 and $2000.
I talked to a driver on Saturday that said it's slow, but he's not going anywhere. He got 2 contracts and 156 miles for the day, but he's at home almost every night. The detention is almost automatic, if you are at a S/R for two hours, you get an extra $20, three hours an additional $30, after four hours it goes to $40 an hour. Not many companies match that detention pay policy.
But your maintenance cost will be about double of an OTR truck. It usually runs about 7 cpm more than an OTR job, and steer tires seldom make it over 75,000 miles, which OTR can see upwards of 200,000. Drives also get about half the mileage as it's mainly city work in rock yards, lots of bumper pins and nails in the yards. TCS will not pay for tires ruined in their yard. Also as most of your miles are run in the city, your fuel mileage will be worse as well.
Good Luck. -
definetley let me know..
