My buddy gave me a DX 33hml, (I know nothing about hams, 10 meters or anything about that stuff, prefer to spend my money on alimony and nudy bars) I had it sitting in the garage when a friend who is Border Patrol stopped in for a chat, he saw the radio and told me that it was illegal to use, even if I had a Ham liscense and started to tell me the size of some of the fines they give people. Needless to say its still on the shelf in the garage.

    Offender Thanks this.

10meter radios operators with a license, can legally use alot more power on 10 meters. Where as 11 meter radios are
Limited to a maximum legal limit of 4 watts. Both bands will bounce radio waves off of the Ionosphere, this is known as ionospheric propogation, or "skip", it only occurs when the Sun is overhead. Thats why these bands are called daytime bands
At Night since the ionosphere is no longer charged, the groundwave, is the most
Effective way to communicate, on these bands, but ground waves usually
Go only a short distance maybe 5 to 10 miles.
Effective 10 and 11 meter propogation is really more about Having
The right antenna and the time of day
    Hope that answered your Question.

Im One of those "no code hams" and I know how to use my equipment
Please don't lump everyone into One category.
I am a general class, and I earned it, I did decide to learn code Anyway
And im getting quite good. 73

I guess CB lingo doesn't match the Haminators cuz I've been calling out 10-73 on 27.185 all day, alerting my brethren of speed traps :p (even tho only 1 out of 100 people knew what I was talking get about.)

I can't wait to get my technicians license, I loves talking in code. Makes me feel totally legit. I love my 10 meter radio freqed for 11meter. And even tho I would be polite if I snuck over to 10 meter land, I never would sneak over there and never have, ( i wouldnt walk into a strangers house just cuz he left the door unlocked) out of respect for what the hams have learned and done to deserve their license.

You will really enjoy Having a tech.license
Yes 73 is common lingo among hams, it means goodbye,
Just a way of signing off. Also when I was talking about
Code i meant Morse code. It used to be a requirement
To learn Morse code to get a tech. License. But that is no longer
The case. If you want a really good study aid to pass
The tech. Test go to hamstudy.org.
    So good luck and 73!
