I've been running my 99 Crew cab F350 with a CM "ER" model hauler bed and a 2008 Kaufman 50ft wedge. I am considering getting rid of the bed and having just some deck plate put on, some fenders and maybe an aux. fuel cell. Oh, and a hitch too, lol. I really love the bed but for what I do, its basically just a big hunk of pretty!

Is it worth getting rid of the bed to save the weight for cargo? I guessing it weighs about 1200-1500 pounds. I currently run under 26k until I get a good solid feel for how I like it and when I'm ready(financially), will bump up to either a day cab and bigger trailer or maybe a Five Pack set up.

Any suggestions for the hitch set up? Brands/models? I would like to have the option of fifth wheel and goose neck ball. My trailer has a 14k# rating.

When I go into running cars with a dually I will use the standard pickup bed or cab and chassis with diamond plate. Since you are under 26k you should focus on saving weight to load more cars. I would remove the fancy bed, sell it and then either leave it and just keep the hitch, buy a normal truck bed and put it on, or diamond plate it. You could always get a flatbed to put on it.

Take off the bed, you can always put it back on later. Just set the fifth wheel on the chassis with a plate. Saving weight is everything when running under 26k. My truck weighs in at 6,000 lbs with a sleeper. With 3 minivans on I still have 1-2k to spare. Also when you loose the bed, you can run a low pro trailer which keeps your center of gravity low and reduces fuel consumption .

    I use a holland-binkly fifth wheel 32,000 lb capacity

I have a 2002 Ford E 350 with 7.3 and 4r100 trans 300k on original drivetrain . pretty much what you have on the 99.

Thats great info. Thanks! I have come across the Holland Blinkly brand in my searches. And that was my hopes, to go to a lopro trailer for those very reasons. I have posted my truck bed for sale on my local Craigs List. Set up like mine they are about $5500 or so new. So I figured I should get about half for mine which is about 3 years old now. That way I can get my set up going with hitch, fenders, decking and box. Maybe a fuel cell.

Still gotta new Holland Binkley rusting away on the side of the house. I'd let it go cheap but the darn thing is a b**** to ship.
