I just picked up a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD (4x4) ext. cab....It's the 6 liter...has 90k-something miles on it....It's loaded - leather heated seats, bose sound, etc.....Getting the tranny rebuilt for about $1k.....I paid $2500 for it, and had to pay $350 to get it hauled to my area.
I'll be hauling primarily one car at a time for myself and friends then eventually I am going to add a 2-car trailer with a 5th wheel hitch.
Anyone have one of these trucks before ? Did you like it or not ?
Also anyone know anything about those SLR performance chips ? I read somewhere they can improve gas mileage ?
Anyone here have or had a Chevy or GMC 2500 ???

I have a 2007 GMC sierra sle with the 6lt. and the transmission went to #### right at 100,200 miles on it .....go figure! They told me that the Manufacture warranty was no longer valid once I went 90 miles over the 5 year 100k. When I drive around in auto and the transmission hits 140+ degrees it gets hung up in between 2 and 5 gear, then stays in low gear until I can pull over and turn the engine off to reset. Experimenting, I drive around in the manual mode and it runs fine with out a glitch. Im holding off on the new transmission until this solution works no longer. All that being said it runs great. This truck year does not have the Allison trans. in it. Good Luck!

I have a 2002 GMC 2500 HD Diesel, SLT 2WD.... LOVE IT! Just turned $160,000 miles on it. Was a daily driver for the first 90,000. Pulls the snot out of anything we hook to it.... Currently pulling a steel three horse trailer, have in the past pulled a 3 Horse Gooseneck and a 36 ft Living Quarters Horsetrailer.. You have to keep reminding your self you have a trailer back there because you don't feel a thing.
We did have an Injector go out around 125,000 miles but Chevy paid all but $1500 for all new injectors. We were over in time for the extended warenty but under in miles so I pushed for them to pay some of the cost... Little things are going here and there but all cosmetic and due to neglect.... The engine and trans are strong and will outlive the body.... -
You should have took duramax diesel 6.6L. More efficient mpg than gas 6.0L.

oh well this is the truck I got....It will have to do until maybe someday I get a diesel...I'm only running some cars with it for me and my friend to start...I'll just have to charge accordingly as to my gas mileage....GF just started driving it a couple of days ago...says it's not getting even getting 10 mpg - but that was with me hot-dogging around in it in 4-wheel drive for a bit too in the snow....My mechanic decided to customize my exhaust to save me money...The exhaust was cut about half way and he exhausted it out a muffler before the passenger side rear wheel...
He said it will increase HP...But what does that do to gas mileage with an exhaust like that ? -
He would have had to get an 05-07 for it to be any good, and if your not towing 24/7 a diesel is really a waste.

I've been wondering if gas vs diesel is a huge factor. I have pulled with both and found I prefer the diesel due to the torque, but found gas to be better mpg. Anyone have any comments on this?

Comparing what engines? And towing what?

Chevy 6.0 gas and Ford 6.0 diesel.
-
Well the Ford's 6.0 is not the greatest to begin with, but for commercial use a diesel is really a necessity, gas engines typically just don't hold up.
