As much as I feel handicapped spots for non-truckers is right and anyone who isn't handicapped should get fined a lot of money, however those in the truck stops shouldn't exist because even if you are capable of driving, this isn't a job where the responsibility is only with driving and if you can't do the other stuff, then you shouldn't be in a truck.

I think those spots are mainly for riders but you made a good point though. You shouldn't be in the trk if you're handicapped. That's quit a climb getting in and out of the trk.

I am mentally handicapped. Do I qualify for a handicapped parking spot?
seriously though I have wondered about being handicapped and driving, especially flatbedders. Yes the load was tarped too.So someone else chains/straps the load down then unchains/removes the straps? how do the handicappers climb in/out of the truck if they're disabled enough for the parking spots? to what extent does the disability go before the DOT will not allow one to drive? why do those that park in the handicapped spots always seem to smoke? would that not aggravate say, those that are handicapped with breathing problems? why knowingly compound an already known health issue?
yeah i do tend to look over those parked in the handicapped zones for the disabled placard/windshield emblem. I'd like to learn more regarding disabled truckers so i do not judge too quickly. In all my time out here i have not really equated one with the other yet there are many parking spots supposedly devoted to truckers that are handicapped.
in reality we all are mentally handicapped to a certain extent-we drive truck. it is the physical handicap that i am curious about.Tb0n3 Thanks this. -
My wife has traveled with me off and on for over 35 years. When she is with me we carry a placard and park in handicap parking when we can. She is post polio and has a small leg and hip and would be happy trade the placard for a good leg.
DirtyBob, CondoCruiser, Sly Fox and 9 others Thank this. -
Wasn't trying to offend anyone just always see fat lazy drivers with them. Riders I see.

My friend who has the lung disease is working, plans on working as long as he can. He is capable of doing the job. He is not a fat slob. He just can't walk far anymore. So, he should go home, try to collect social security, because you don't think he should be able to have a handicapped parking space????Numb Thanks this. -
I have a bone spur in my spine, at times I can not walk very far, I have asthma and in cold weather can not walk very far and I have a handicap parking permit. The Ohio turnpike has handicap parking which I utilize if they are not occupied by dumb ### drivers that can't read or just plain don't care. Usually at truck stops I park way back while lard ### parks at the fuel pumps. I have seen truck stops with hanicap parking spots, one that comes to mind is Flying J in Saginaw Mi. And by the way for those that think people with a slight handicap should not be driving, I will put my record, expierence and present ability against anyone.
