That's the problem... Brokers looking for the fast buck... If the shipper refuses to pay the right amount then you should pass up and not try to find another trucker to rape... If all brokers did this shippers would understand that they have to pay...
Problem is that the current situation forces a lot of truckers to move just to pay the bills... brokers put nothing on the line and they will rape the truckers one at a time, like locusts when the trucker is broke they'll find another trucker to rape, and another, and another...
Also, 10% is too much... you are not puting anything on the line... nothing... Not even a bond... Every trucker out there is putting his life on the line.... a little unexpected problem and that's it... a blown tire, an idiot who decided to cut the truck with his Toyota Corolla.... you name it... Trucks are machines and as such have no word... any small item that breaks down and you are looking at at least $400.00 in repairs...
8% should be the top...but no..... there is no limit on the amount of money they want to make...
Stupid, Stupid, Stupid....
If they kept things honest the well would never dry... Now I have brokers calling me all day long to see if I'll move their load... Sorry... I'm done... I'm broke... find another idiot to leach off of...

YOU personally might only be doing 8% to 10%, but your parent company is doing another 10% or more in many cases.
I'm willing to bet that 80% of the brokers/freight agents are thieves. That is they are out to jack every penny out of the truck owner that they can get. It seems that in the broker world there are not enough good apples to pull the rest of the scum out of the gutter. Unlike the proverbial saying of one rotten apple spoils the whole barrel.
10% is an honest cut to a broker/freight agent for being a truck owner's sales team. But so many brokers are taking 50% if not more off of the top of what the shippers are paying. -
Most of the time I do.....I often call shippers and find out they're only paying. $1.20 a mile for a reefer load from CA/NC. I try to battle with them but its useless. I try and explain that price of fuel it would cost 1$1,000 to fill up alone, then another $300 for the reefer. But they think I'm crazy for asking for $6500 for a 2900miles. I refuse a bunch...I understand you guys have to make and living and so do I. I try to get the best rate as possible so me, carrier and shipper are happy. If they pay a good rate then I could move loads as quickly as possible. -
Comet I am beginning to have some doubts about your attempts to find out why O/Os hate brokers. Its possible we are being given a snow job. It would not be the first time its happened.
Unless you are able to post a rate chart to prove what you are saying the shippers are only willing to pay $1.20 per mile, I for one am not going to believe you. The reason being that the freight shows up on the load boards at $1.20 to $1.50.
If you are able to prove what you are saying I'll be the first one to retract my suspicions. -
You might have it there Brickman.
But there is the possibility that he is indeed a broker. The amounts that he keeps quoting remind me alot of the loads offerred by CH Robinson. I have had dealings with them in the past and they are the lowest paying loads I have ever seen. They are not the loads by choice. -
$1.20 certainly sounds like CH Robinson rates.
-
id have to disagree...it all depends on the people you work with and customer service...i work with one girl who works for C.H.Robinson and i haul for her loads no less than 2.00 a mile brokered loads i dont care if she takes 50% off the load as long as im getting 2bucks a mile my guys are happy...however i wont work with any other C.H office because yes their rates suck...i believe a successful broker could be the one that doesnt take more than 8% and have good strong accounts i dont care if its C.H.R or some other outfit....ive had C.H paid me 3.00 a mile on 2800miles for 2 pallets that had to deliver in 3 days ...hell its all about finding the right customers that pay...and you gotta set your broker straight to what kinda rate you need for praticular load, they dont pay u look for something else.
The problem i see now is theres many newbie brokers that dont know squat about what truck should be getting and what they should be getting and they are the once raping the industry..they quote as low as they can trying to get a load and then they look for a truck and it should be the other way around 1st you call the Carrier find out how much they will need to pull the load and then u call the customer!! -
Just get on realtime and see for yourself.
One company for example Original Bagle, is paying 1.00 a mile for 419 a mile for a reefer running 0 degrees.
Theres isn't a lot of good paying loads on there but I just happen to grab one up thats paying 2.30+ a mile -
That load for 1.00 a mile can just stay there. My truck does not even start the motor for that. -
