pickup sleepers

I am not advocating that you take my post as advice, but I am only posting in the thread as reference to what I did. It doesn't make it legal, it just states my position on this situation at the time.

When my wife & I had a hot shot, I took the back seat out & built a box that extended all the way across the floor of the truck with only enough room so that when I shut the rear doors, they didn't hit the ply board box I built. We put a mattress on it & slept there five nights a week. At first, like you, we attempted to sleep legal by getting a hotel room every night. Needless to say, that got expensive. We asked around to other guys running one tons & they said they slept in the truck, so that's when I built the box back there & not only used it for a box/frame to sleep on, but used it for storage.
We slept on it for the better part of two years going through many inspections & was never questioned, ticketed or shut down because of it. It was plain by looking inside that we used it for a bed cause we had all out bed cover & pillows on it... made up.

Again, I am not advocating that you use the info with in this post as it is, in reality, against the rules & you can be fined &/or taken out of service for 34 hrs if LEO chooses to do so.

To somewhat elaborate on your question specifically though, we did go talk to the people at Cowtown sleepers in Ft Worth &, as you stated, we were not particularly impressed with them. We did get quotes from a couple of other companies, one of which was Eagle or something like that in one of the northern states. In the end, we just chose not to do it.
