Hello everyone,
I am new to the industry and need a little advise. I drive a Ford F-450 and haul mainly cars and motorcycles with either my 32" enclosed or my three car wedge. one of my biggest expenses is hotels while I am on the road. I try to be legal so I don't sleep in my truck and only once in a while sleep in my enclosed. I have been thinking of getting a sleeper added on to my truck. I found a company named Roadmaster that can do it. Its a little pricey but what I have figured it will save in the long run.
My question is if anyone recommends getting a sleeper or if not what do you do while your on the road. where do you sleep? I don't see many hot shot trucks with sleepers. Also has anyone received a roadmaster sleeper. the only other company I can find is cowtown and I don't really like the style of theme. Any recommendations?
Thanks

There is a complete write up here http://trailerexpeditor.com/
Roadmedic Thanks this. -
Can you make up your own, or do you need to buy a setup from a company?

You are allowed to "rest" in your truck for your 10 hours off duty. Nothing in the regulations state you have to sleep.
I have a bed in my truck. I "rest" fairly well there during my 10 hours. I only get a hotel to reset.Roadmedic Thanks this. -
Thanks, that's exactly what I was hoping to hear.

You could use a copy of the rules/regulations ............
keeps ya outta trouble. -
Good point. A lot easier than buggin you guys about something I could easily google myself. I will definitely do that, thanks.

When you use your pickup as a sleeper berth you have to meet the guidelines in the regulations.
It has to be a minimum of 75" long by 24" wide and top of mattress to the floor 24"
Plus all this stuff. It sure is a lot just to sleep.

I am not advocating that you take my post as advice, but I am only posting in the thread as reference to what I did. It doesn't make it legal, it just states my position on this situation at the time.
When my wife & I had a hot shot, I took the back seat out & built a box that extended all the way across the floor of the truck with only enough room so that when I shut the rear doors, they didn't hit the ply board box I built. We put a mattress on it & slept there five nights a week. At first, like you, we attempted to sleep legal by getting a hotel room every night. Needless to say, that got expensive. We asked around to other guys running one tons & they said they slept in the truck, so that's when I built the box back there & not only used it for a box/frame to sleep on, but used it for storage.
We slept on it for the better part of two years going through many inspections & was never questioned, ticketed or shut down because of it. It was plain by looking inside that we used it for a bed cause we had all out bed cover & pillows on it... made up.
Again, I am not advocating that you use the info with in this post as it is, in reality, against the rules & you can be fined &/or taken out of service for 34 hrs if LEO chooses to do so.
To somewhat elaborate on your question specifically though, we did go talk to the people at Cowtown sleepers in Ft Worth &, as you stated, we were not particularly impressed with them. We did get quotes from a couple of other companies, one of which was Eagle or something like that in one of the northern states. In the end, we just chose not to do it.
Good luck in your quest -
That old thread is basically the same. Here's some links from it.

There was a question on these but as long as you meet the dimensions you are okay. I think I read before someone was an inch shy on the length and wondered if he could remove his door panels. So double check that.
