Prime's training is long...but if you feel like training is what you need, that might just be the ticket for you

If I were you I'd skip the thought of team driving until you get the hang of solo driving.
There's been a lot of DECENT starter companies listed, so far. Take your pick. -
TruckDuo Thanks this.

I did 3 months of research before I entered the field. My choices would be either prime or central refrigerated. Just don't do the lease program

That's good to hear that you want more training... Ill tell you one thing avoid Covenant Transportation... In October my parked truck was hit by a student driver with his trainer sleeping in the bunk, and on Monday my truck was once again hit while parked by a student driver at covenant while her trainer was outside guiding her... So much for guiding her... DId you let Schneider know you weren't ready to be set free on your own? If so I'm surprised they didn't give you AS MUCH time as YOU needed... -
Schneider trains for a week right ?
HalpinUout Thanks this. -
What about Millis , I think their training is shorter than Prime.
I have been looking to start driving also so I just keep reading all info I can. -

Here is my random thoughts on training. I am hoping to start training with Schneider in the next 60 days. I spend my yrs between 18-33 driving concrete mixers and a occasional tractor trailer. After 24 away from driving as job I have decided to return to it. Recently spend a few months driving mixers again before deciding on otr.
There is a difference in driving straight trucks and trailers (backing being the biggest), however the basic concept of weight, and understanding road presence is pretty much the same. Because my recent driving of a mixer after the long absence, the feel came back to me in a day. I really feel the 160+ hrs some companies are requiring with trainers seem excessive in my case. I am about to start a month long driver school to refresh the trailer related issues.
The 3 week program at Schneider is the reason I decided on them. I know nobody wants to hear this but knowing and understanding what the company rules and expectations of you, to me, is very important. From what I have heard that is a big part of their training. As far as life on the road I view it as life, you listen, weigh the advice, and learn as you go.
I would appreciate any feedback. -
School is 3 weeks and then you go out with a trainer for 15000 miles. You will get through your state dmv to do your CDL test during your time out with the trainer. You will be well trained before you get on your own and the trainers don't mind phone calls from former trainees asking for advice or how to's...in fact most of them expect it.dennisroc Thanks this.
