I'm looking for any kind of help with this decision. I'm a 33 year old O/O getting ready to upgrade my truck. The more information I read on the internet the less I want to get rid of my '01 T-800. The truck I'm looking at has 250K for miles. Is a CM 2250-Cummins ISX 525 really only going 500K before they need rebuilt? I'm tired of spending money on my current truck, but do I need to pick up a truck payment as well as a bunch of motor repair on a 3 year old truck. What kind of emissions issues are these trucks having between 250K-500K miles. Any thoughts or comments would help. Thx
Buying a 2012 W900 with a ISX 525. My 1st emissions motor. Help

Beautiful truck for sure but unless you have a horse shoe up ##### that motor will cost you the bank in DPF related problems, if egr cooler hasnt been updated it will probably need replacement eventually as well as 1001 sensor problems related to DPF again which Cummins techs still cant resolve, solution always seems to involve DPF cleaning at high cost plus changing whatever parts and sensors have quit...good luck

An alternative is to read the post by a member on this site who is very savvy on the cummons engine. with some mods and ecm tunning it might be a viable Engine

sorry i forgot to include his name, look for posts by RAWZE

I thought the CM 871 was the ISX motor with all the EGR problems that ended in 2010 when they moved to the CM 2250 version. I will check out Rawze. THX

they may be better then the CM871 but they still have problems...lots

The egr valve problems went away in 2010. The egr cooler problems did not. Check to see if the SCR has been replaced recently and if it hasn't see when the warranty is up on the truck if it isn't already.

I would stay away, my girlfriends dad picked up a 2011 with a ISX just before the turn of the year and it's already been in the shop three times to the tune of around $3400 not including time lost.

^^^ X2. Why would you run any of that emissions garbage if you don't have to? I am all for saving the planet, but not at my additional expense.
