Hating a company for being sucessful and growing is something I don't understand. You are not alone in your dislike of these outfits. A quick read of these boards turns up the same people with the same complaints about every company. Claims of people being harmed, ripped off are a bit excessive. Words have meaning, mean what you say, say what you mean.
All large companies are bad

When I realize I have no control over things (well ALOT of things), my life starts to do better.

"God, grant me the serenity; to accept the things I can not change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference." -
If that's you're train of thought, then you will end up at a CDL mill. Do your homework, there are other companies out there. Steel Warehouse, a private carrier, with probably 50-60 trucks, in Northern Indiana, had a sign up a few weeks ago, looking for drivers. It also said "STUDENTS WELCOME!" Might not be the best job, hauling steel. But it sure ain't CRE, or Swift.
-
Part A) Hauling Steel is a job, and a job is a job. I wouldn't care. The only requirement I have is that it be and Class A position.
Part B) I still am applying to any priviate carrier job that comes up in the Washingon,DC area (where I live) even if I do not qualify. If they don't specfically say a year or more, I apply. I have called the numbers in my phone book for Trucking Companies. Believe me... I AM TRYING! I am not one of those people who is just trying to wait for a job. Since I am trying to get into a new career, I am using almost every outlet available to me! -
When? If Ever? Has anyone ever witnessed a Maverick Transportation,N.Little Rock ugley flatbed unit.Running in "The Shakey?"???? I thought NOT!!
-
Look up Smith Transport, I cant remember if they take newer drivers, but they are about 1000 trucks and I think private. They have a good set up for home on weekends and hollidays. -
I don't doubt that you are trying! I'm saying there are private companies out there that hire newbies. Have you tried a beer distributor, or someone like a building products distributor, or Coke/Pepsi? Something to get your feet wet?
-
Recovering Alcoholic... don't think so...
The ones around here want at least 6mths to a year. It's ok. I accept the fact that I have to go to the mills. I get my experience and go. They are in control. Not me. When anger builds, breathe; as long as they don't mess with my money, I can deal with many things now-a-days. And I am ok with that. There are alot of things in this world that we don't like, but we do any way. That is the base meaning of the word acceptance. -
Well, there are others besides the Swifts, Schneiders, Werners, and USX's of the industry. If you're committed to going to a CDL mill, choose a good one.

There's a good thread going on at the Favorite Trucking Co.message board, about BTC. Doesn't sound like the normal CDL mill kind of place.
