I am new to this site. I am 32 years old, I live in the Atlanta area here in Georgia and I have been a trucker for 2 years now. I am hoping to find answers to questions I have about companies and learn from the people who have been doing this a lot longer than I have and have found success. Perhaps I might make some friends in the process which would be cool as well, people who share the same ups and downs in this crazy life.

I am wondering if anybody can tell me what are some of the better trucking companies to go to work for I have had really bad experiences in the 2 year period I have been driving. I have worked for the worst of the worst because I didn't know differently but now I have a general idea of who to stay away from, but it is still trying when I come across a company I think would be ok but drivers who do or have worked for them always have something good to say and drivers have nothing but bad things to say and its hard to know who to believe. Any assistance in this area would be greatly appreciated.

Here's some companies to look at & don't take for gospel the bad remarks from drivers:

Watkins & Shepard (terminal in Dalton)
    Tyson Foods
    Southeast Carriers
    Big-G Express
    Big-M Transportation
    UPS Freight
    Big-M Transportation
    Lone Star Transportation
ThyssenKrupp USA, Inc. - Atlanta, GA
    Comtrak
    YRC Freight
    CTL Transportation
    Superior Carriers
    Trimac
    SVTN
    Melton Truck Lines
    Decker Truck Line

Well, here's a good start for some good companies.

I just wanted to update I finished orientation with ptl and been out a couple weeks now and things are going pretty good so far. I am happy in my new job and I would recommend this company to others. You can't believe what everybody says about a company you just have to make up your mind whats the best move for you and find out for yourself. All trucking companies are pretty much the same there is no perfect job in this cutthroat business there is gonna be things you don't like that's just the way it is. You just have to determine does the good outweigh the bad. For me I am staying put I found a good company and I am sick of going through orientations.
