1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Hello all, I've been lurking these pages for a few weeks now and have really enjoyed reading up on my new career. Lots of useful info here for sure! I havent posted yet because any questions that developed were answered by a quick search. Figured I'd go ahead and register and say hi since I'm off to school in Newport AR on monday the 31st.

Trucking is something I've always wanted to get into but I found myself getting pulled in many different directions. I'm leaving a home web-design business for life on the open road. (cant compete with big companies..no more .com $$$ for me lol.

Anyways, I was hired by P.A.M through driver solutions and am heading off soon. I live withing 50 miles of the school so it should be nice...maybe even slip home for dinner with the family a few times during training. I have a wife of ten years and three kids who are gonna miss daddy something awful, but I hope this is the start of something great!

Welcome to the Site! With where you live at once you get some stick time in Walmart might be a good driving job for you.

oh yeah, I already have that in mind for down the road. Though I have a buddy who's been driving for P.A.M for years now and says its not just a good starter company but can be good for the long haul, who knows...I hear good and bad about it..just like every other company lol.

I made it through school at Newport. received my CDL as well as Doubles/triples and tanker endorsements, Hazmat has to wait for a bit due to the cost.

now I'm just waiting to be picked up by my trainer and I'm off for the big road.

lol - sounds familiar! Gotta wait on the hazmat - I can't afford to change my mind! I'll have to declare bankruptcy if I have to change my clothes.

I, too, just graduated (Passed my test yesterday, as a matter of fact) - and have a tentative meet with a small belly-dump operation tomorrow.

I have some qualms about it (most notably, I'd be a contracted driver, not an employee), but I need a paying job *now*.. After I get caught up on a few things, I'd definitely move on.

Consider yourself lucky if you have a meeting with a belly dump operation.
I can not get anyone here to even talk to me and I have some OTR experience. Hope it works out for you.

    Good luck
