Hey , I have this newbie question: What can you advise me about this, I'm planing to buy a Prostat 2010 with 10 speed, cummins ISX, TRI PAC Apu, with 464 k on it, but the only thing bothers me, is ratio 2.64...
Should I buy something like this with ratio 2.64, or looking for something else??
Thank you.

The ISX, Prostar and the fact it's a 2010 (post-emissions) should bother you just as much. I wouldn't buy anything with the emissions junk on it. I hope you're planning on putting a lot of money away for maintence because you will probably need it. Yes the 2.64 is an issue. I'm not sure why it's geared that way especially with a 10 speed.

The 2.64 is NOT an ishue. It will get you better fuel economy. The truck is specked to cruse in 9th gear. 9th should be a 1:1 ratio for the trans (direct). In direct there is a lot less trans resistance and thus you get better mpg. Whne you need extra speed you can hit it to 10th, but your normal 62-68ish will be in 9th getting better mpg.

Yup, that is a company truck all right. Spec'd for mileage and nothing more. It will start slowing down when you see a hill in the distance! LOL. In my experience I get the same kinda mileage and more climbing power out of a 3.36 or 3.43-which I currently have. I would strongly advise against buying a 2.64. Not for o/o's...

What if you hauled extremely light loads ( 10,000 lbs or less ) . Would the truck be sluggish on hills with this light weight ?

Looks like the walmart trucks, got exact the same specs for their trucks...

I would buy it... I'm beyond sure it's been well maintained and it's a good looking tractor. For your first truck, I think it's an Great Idea

What are the pros and cons of becoming an owner operator vs. a company driver? How does income for an owner operator compare to that of a company driver? I realize there are many variables involved so if you could provide a general summary, that would be great!
