Theres plenty of local work in upstate NY.Dont know how much exp he has,but i got local work after only a year of driving and i ve only been driving 2.5 years. He should check some of the temp agys to,they re not all that bad.Ive never had a dispatcher try that with me and would have told them no,hung up and went to bed.Im not killing someone or myself over a truckload of ring dings.Hope he leaves he can do better,he seems like a decent guy.

They should be in deep sheet for calling LEOs,if any other person did that theyd be facing charges for falsley reporting a crime.

Yes I did listen to it but the drivers "issue" in the "true story" has nothing to do with the point I'm trying to make. But if I understand correctly, the more time a driver has off in the form of breaks and other sleeper and off duty time, the more he should be expected to call in tired? Do I have that about right? And the dispatchers and planners are supposed to understand and accept this?

Or, are drivers supposed to have a preferred operating schedule, and that's the way it is supposed to remain and the needs of the company are supposed to fit with the all of their drivers' preferred schedules? Man oh man. This industry really is being consumed with a lot of drivers with poor work ethics and/or by drivers who have no business here.

I follow Abe on you tube.....Im glad he showed what a real professional is suppose to do. Listened to his body and voted on the side of safety. Despite if he should of agreed to the load or not. Im just a wannabe so I will not overstep my bounds, but as I have been told my whole life from other truckers...."you have a responsibilities deliver the load yes.....but you owe it to yourself, your family and the people you share the road with to do it safely". Im sure that rude ### dispatcher would want to hang a driver if is wife and kids got wiped out by a truck driver asleep behind the wheel. Yet....a few jumping jack and a walk around the truck is and then he wants to point a sleepy driver down the road....the same road that we all share. throwing out threats of being fired.....saying that he has to explain to his wife why he got fired....what a low blow. How about the dispatcher explain to a family member why the driver is now dead. Like I said Im just a wannabe, soon to be trucker...but this video sure was an eye opener.

You're missing the point how the business operates. Basically you have your money meat load running third shift then you have your back load running first shift. A meat hauler bounces back and forth on their sleep schedule.

He had almost 20 hours to adjust his sleep. He chose to sleep early then expect to stay up 24 hours. That's on him not the dispatcher. If you are a powder puff that has to be in a truckstop at 5 pm everyday so you can sleep when it's dark then the meat business is not for the ordinary driver. Next time you run late night notice all the green reefer lights. Meat moves at night.

You don't have a specific pick up time hauling meat because it might take all day to slaughter one specific item. So in the meat industry they give windows and you are expected to be at the customer 10 hours before what they call the dead time. Load comes out, driver refreshed by however means he chooses to adjust his sleep and you run the little piggy to market.

One reason meat hauling companies run paper logs is because it's not DOT friendly all the time. Now many are forced due to compliance to use EOBRs and we have issues like with this guy. There was a communication breakdown. The fact this guy made the video tells me he planned this scenario. How tired can you be if you are awake enough to perform this action? My butt is crawling in the sleeper if I'm too tired to run. We're talking maybe at most a 6-8 hour run. He had time to get a 1-2 hour nap in to finish the run out. Though his choice is I want another 10 hour break.

Again I can't count the times I've been in his position. You fix it with a nap. There is nothing in the regulations that says you can't take a nap in the middle of a run. You don't have to have 8 hours sleep to refresh. You sleep enough to make delivery and sleep on the dock when you get there. Load complete you pull away from the dock or near vicinity and you sleep some more. You do this stuff long enough you become like a light switch. You stayed tired all the time. If you want to sleep you can sleep, you want to wake up you can wake up. This is the whole meat business not just this guy or just K&B.

He just came off sleeping for 10 hour break. He was told less than 2 hours after the break to take another 10 hour break.

How in the world can anyone be expected to go back to sleep after sleeping 10 hours.

Sorry, but you are nuts to believe it can be done.
