if the door to the office is locked, then they've gone home for the day....of course ONE of the drivers, whom shall remain nameless, me, has the combination to the alarm, and knows where the hide a key is located....hmm, guess the office isn't locked

I can't confirm his story, but at the company I washed tanks for, that same thing happened almost verbatim. It was back in the 70's but the mechanics told me about it. Apparently the dispatcher had a drinking problem and would get drunk and mess guys dispatch all up. Anyway, one finally got tired of it and drug him through the window into the drivers room. Obviously the driver got fired.

Used to be locked and we had a phone to use to call them. They since did a remodel and we are allowed to see them and the planners. I think it has helped a lot. Getting to know the planners has shown them who they are screwing over and it has happened about half as much in the last year since the remodel.

It's a terminal by terminal policy ... I know of 2 that are open door and at most others the planners are right behind the window and will speak to you or call you in if the window jockey can't help you.

Well, if that happened today, you would have been fired and ended up in jail. Sometimes I think that is the biggest thing wrong with this country. People were a bit more considerate of others, back when they knew they could get their arses kicked if they were not.

Sure, we have the drive by shootings, the nut cases, the gangbangers, but in the overall work force you don't see the kind of "corrective action," that you used to see. Used to be a very normal thing in some lines of work, like construction for one.

Hell, back when I was a cop, if we were called at all, it would be considered, "mutual combat," and unless some wimp really wanted to file charges, or there was a serious injury or a death, it would be "case closed, informal."

And this is the current attitude that folks have. "Nobody would DARE to lay a hand on." Hell, I don't know, maybe it actually IS better, but I don't think so.

mine has a sliding window that stays open. and his door is never shut. but most of the time he wont be in the office. as we can afford the technology that allows him to talk and dispatch right from his company cell phone as he hangs out with the drivers. much easier that way. chances are if he is in the office he is watching a movie on the computer or sports updates. we only have the one dispatcher and have a very laid back atmosphere there,

The "smart" truck co's have an office downtown where all the personnel have their cubicles they work from. Notice I said, "downtown", right ? As in, very hard to get a truck there, let alone park it. The terminal is just for the mechanic's shop and driver's lounge. What about some of these shippers/consignees dock offices with bullet proof glass ? If I was a dispatcher, I wouldn't want the drivers having complete access to me, simply because I have work to do and I don't need to be interrupted by drivers wanting to hang out and shoot the breeze. I would hang out with them on my breaks and lunch even after my shift ends for awhile, down in the lounge or yard.

Yes I did and I would do it again ! I won't let anyone cuss me like that and do something about it ! You can all the BS you want but it happened .

The outfit was middle American Express out of the stock yards in national city il the dispatchers name was frank . Like I said after that we got along fine never had another problem .

Back then you took care of your own problems we weren't the crybaby drivers you have today .

I have my doubts as well.

Aggravated battery and criminal damage to property. You would have went to jail.

If you knew how these outlaw outfits were in the early eightes you understand how theses things happened every other day and nobody called crying to the cops .

I have no reason to make crap up on the internet I am not here to try and impress anyone I just thought I would share a story from my past if you don't believe it that's fine with me .

By by the way that was just one of many things that happened at this outfit that would get you thrower in jail today !!!
