I'm not sure YOU have the whole story. The way it sounded to me, he just came off a 10 hour break and was told to do a short trailer move, and then take another 10 hour break because he had a load that picked up late afternoon/early evening. This is where the problem comes in. After finishing a 10 hour break and getting a good night sleep, he couldn't get back to sleep because he was already well rested. I don't know about some of you, but I know that I can't just sleep "on command" after coming off a good night's sleep.

Now, if he could have gone over and picked the load right away in the morning, put most, if not all, of the miles on that load behind him during the afternoon, and got another good NIGHT'S sleep, there wouldn't have been an issue. The issue was that he would have been awake for nearly 20 hours, was extremely tired, and didn't feel safe.

Now what we DON"T know is if the driver tried to take a nap at some point during the day or not. I can't speak for him, but sometimes I can take a 2-4 hour afternoon nap and sometimes I can't. Either way, pulling an all-nighter is tough after not sleeping all day. Been there, done that. I pushed through when I did it, but I wonder how close I was to the possibility of flat out falling asleep at the wheel. I still commend this guy for knowing his limits and trying to shut it down BEFORE something bad happened.

In the internet age of video phones that is getting harder to do. I bet there will be some high level meetings about this at that company. They just became the poster boys for unsafe driver management.

Anyway it's time for me to hit the road. I pulled off my 5 to 6 hours of sleep. Now to put on 600 plus miles if the weather permits. We back quiet until next.

Understandable, but a smart driver doesn't wait till the last minute to say he can't do it. Neither do they have time to ruin their career putting their face on a you tube video and recording unsuspecting people.

Do the math he had 20 plus hours in the sleeper and was wanting to take another 8 to 10 hours after driving 1 or 2 hours.

Ya give a guy a pre plan tell him that he has to take a trailer to the place so it can be loaded, and when he accepts load dispatch. Give him the Benefit of the doubt that he can pull off a 6 to 7 hour drive after a 10 hour break.

One could only hope, but I suspect that the two dispatchers that played phone tag with the driver get barely a slap on the wrist at best. The driver, however, will probably be starved out now so that he has no choice but to quit.

My guess is he is about to quit anyway or he wouldn't have made that video in the first place.

So you are saying that he should continue on even though he is probably seeing crap in the road and dozing off? Please stay away from here! I don't want you killing my family. Thanks.

Us "EEEEVIL YOUTUBERS" huh???? Don't be mad cuz people watch....

I think maybe you are the steering wheel holder....all toting the company line...Go be the night dispatchers' dog. They will love you. You may even get to see a picture of your kids in your dispatcher's office.

So the driver just comes off a 10hr break... does a short trailer move (and yes.. must legally log this) and then told to take another 10hr break. WOW.. talk about poor planning by dispatch. That is NOT utilizing your driver correctly. And driver sits and makes NO money. Times have changed people... back in the old days when a driver was caught driving over hours, DOT just made you sit for 8hrs. Now with CSA comes fines, points and driver disquals. Too many points=no company will hire you. In alot of cases, one accident and your driving career is over. The Billy Big Rigger days are over. Now with that being said... Once a driver starts his day he'd better get it the wind and keep that left door shut. He's got 14 hrs total before next break and need to get as far down the road as possible. As many people have said, "Your the captian of your ship, take charge, be productive, but be SAFE. " . No load... I repeat.. no load is worth someones life... and YES... appointments CAN be changed!

This from a guy who just posted on the internet that he is going to drive 600 miles on 5 hours sleep in bad weather. Don't have a wreck.
