You guys are right, this guy has been offered help, there is an obvious wider spot behind him, he can't keep a cool head and just stop and assess the situation , exactly what you need to do to be a truck driver, I don't think training makes someone this stubborn or dumb, to train students not to listen to advice is very bad practise, I'm drivin almost 20 years and have driven everything from reefers to heavy haul, livestock to tankers, cabovers and conventionals, rhd and lhd but I'm still learning, never refuse good advice and never think you know it all but of course you can be led 'down the garden path' too

Yes and it is how we handle our mistakes and not make it worse , that counts. And the carrier had no way to knowing one day he would end up getting such a mess. Could have been any logo on that truck.

I had to do that once when I encountered a low bridge on a marked truck route construction detour.

There is a low bridge on a posted detour in South Chicago. They are replacing the I-57 entrance and so if you come out of the warehouses on I think it's 95th st. you are faced with an overpass that used to be listed as 13'6" and is now listed as 13'4" on the marked detour route. There was another truck beside me and we both crept up to the bridge at about the speed you would bump a dock (some of us anyway.) I live by the philosophy, "Don't get into a situation you can't get out of." I cleared, but it was close and I will not go to Mead again without knowing how to get headed in the right direction ahead of time. Just one more thing, I have been under that underpass 2-3 times before, but I am aware that repaving can alter the clearance. (I hate Chicago!)

Long day, mind is blanking. Is that Stoney Island south of 95th?

I have made it under, loaded and low, and empty. If you look at the bridge there are increasing plate thicknesses towards the middle. Stay in side lanes.

But I have not gone under since all the new signs sprouted. They may have repaved taking away a few inches.

If you need to, you can take S. Dorchester to get around it. Just a bit west. Lots of speed bumps, and it is closed certain late hours of weekends to stop the drunkard traffic from local bars zipping through. Leastways, that is the reason I heard, for it being closed.

That is the place. I don't go there often, but I'll have to remember to go right instead of left out of Mead for the next year or so.
