I was in Maine Thursday going North bound when a new Canaan COE tractor passed me going south. It looked like a Scania but I'm not sure, didn't notice it til the last second.
    Are COE's making a come back ? or just a O/O who wanted a one off ?

I've seen a few new cab overs on the road. Think every one I've seen has been hooked to curtain sided car hauler.

    Mr Ed Thanks this.

Ive seen more cabovers in the last two years than since i was a kid in the 80's. A lot of older ones in great shape running around. Especially in the rust belt hauling steel.

Freightliner has made a new COE Argosy that looks a bit like a Scania. There is a company up in Canada that ordered a bunch and they were in PA for a while. They may make their way Stateside with the new CA emissions rules and the COE's there having to be phased out.

    Mr Ed Thanks this.

Did they get rid of the electric step?

I was at a freightliner dealer maybe ten years ago, that was holding a batch of those Argosies for shipment to Australia, right hand drive and all. I played with the electric retracting step, until the battery died, then walked off
    :)

HDT mag as an article this month (February) called “The return of the truck that never really went away” talking about them.

Apparently Freightliner has been offering the Argosy’s as a glider since taken them out of production in 2006, they just have not been advertising them much.

moosc and Mr Ed Thank this.

The Agrosy is available here but only as a glider. That pic is from Hartford Freightliner. The wheels are a euro bolt pattern, Like what you'd on a bus here.

HDT (Heavy Duty Trucking) mag , had a write up on frieghtliner stating the argosy was always offered as a glider. And are toying with offering it as a new complete truck . Miss the cab over, the last ones rode as well as any thing else and the flat floor models had as much room if not more then any other truck .

Mr Ed and Dinomite Thank this.
