    Howdy,

Is it feasible to attend church on a weekly basis while over the road? Also, I don't believe in working on the sabbath. It seems that to take every Sunday off while on the road would cause some problems with "corporate".

    :biggrin_25525:

What do the faithful do while on the road to remain part of a religious community?

Thanks for your advice, input, and experience!

p.s. Just realized this should have been in 'Questions from New Drivers' or 'Experienced Truckers' Advice' ... Mods, please move if necessary.

I am usually home on weekends, but if I am out a lot of the truckstops have truck stop ministries in them. Most will meet in a little trailer on the lot.

I tried getting home for that reason, along with family time - really tough with almost all companies, no matter what is promised during recruitment.

I have Sirius, so I listen to Mass every morning and both the EWTN and Catholic Channel Masses on Sunday mornings, when running - no, I am not Catholic, but I like the structured service.

I have tried attending at Truckstops, but have found those to be pretty casual as to start times - may be only my experience, but that did not seem to be much of a choice.

I treasure the time driving to pray and reflect, listening to the Bible on MP3s, etc. I found my faith in much better shape by driving, as well as my trying to live as a real Christian, despite the challenges of others on the road.

    Just some suggestions/thoughts.

I have been able to attend church almost every Sunday. They may be a few times that I had to miss. On those weeks I try reading my bible more. I always feel bad when I have to miss church. It's like my jump start for the week. This is just my opinion- God knows your heart and your willingness to serve Him and that can be done on the road also. There's alot of drivers who will curse you for mentioning anything about God. But they can fill the waves with talking about sex, drugs and etc. All I can tell you is God is always with us. I hope you find a company that will allow you to be home on Sundays. I'll pray that you do. God Bless.:biggrin_25519:

Thanks everyone for the info. Being Catholic, my main fear is missing communion each week. Being at mass also keeps me centered and peaceful for the coming week.

GM, I make prayer a part of my daily routine (right when I wake up). I find that helps me start my day right. And the other guys are right, driving gives you lots of time to refelct upon yourself and your religion. The mass on sirius is a great idea, and a lot of truckstops do have a casual type service in them. And once you get enough experience, you may be able to get a regional job where you can be home for sunday service at your church.

And if all else fails, remember God does know how you feel. You may find your own way to show your reverence, even if you aren't receiving communion.

And try channel 7 (seven) on your CB, that's where you can find the 'truckers for Christ'; I have had many interesting conversations with drivers on that channel.

Another good source is Family Net radio on Sirius channel 161. They always have sermons on Sunday mornings. I also tried to never miss Dave Ramsey's replay from 8pm-11pm central time M-F.
