Most companies have a NYC bonus payment but you'll probably have to ASK FOR IT later as many tend to "forget" Get directions from the customer, relax but be prepared. It's challenging but it will be an experience you will look back on and be glad you did it. Once you get the first one in your pocket, the next ones become easier as you learn what to expect and be on the look out for and may learn to look at those trips as "a challenge worth accepting" or "an experience", probably both.
If you dont have easy pass, don't go into NJ/NY without $200-300 in your pocket. Don't go in without a plan to exit (to get to next load, an escape plan to wait on load, something) The servics plazas on the Jersey turnpike will probably be full by 17:00 and there are no truck stops of any consequence in the immediate area.

If you are pulling a 53 footer, ask them to put something in writing telling you to illegally enter the city.

Being from calmer (and nicer) places, I always dreaded any trip that involved any thing having to do with this place. I feel your pain about your equipment and the possible threat to your score but nevertheless, I always go when it comes my turn.
One tip that may ease your pain (somewhat) is to do what I do and always call your consignee and/or shipper to inquire about directions (as so wisely posted earlier in this thread) and to also inquire about the safety within the area your are headed. In my experience, I have found that most everyone you will contact are extremely helpful and will share your concern.
With this thought in mind, I will also (and always) contact the Police precinct that is located within my destination area to ask of their opinion and help as well. Believe it or not, I have had more than one precinct in the South Bronx to even offer parking at their locations while I waited for my Consignee or Shipper to open their doors for the business day. (Again, as posted earlier, it is sage advice to go in under cover of darkness preferably very early morning hours before things start to get nuts). If you are courteous, and understanding of their duties, you might even get an escort to your location providing it is close enough to the precinct you choose to contact.
Not everyone's answer.. but this has worked for me.
Hope this helps.a-trucker123, roshea, NavigatorWife and 4 others Thank this. -

There are times in life when you got to stand tall , go ahead NYC is not bad after youve ran it couple of times , think when you get home all the truck driver stories you can tell about NYC !!

NYC is a big place. Some of the places to go in the Bronx and Staten Island are not bad at all to drive and deliver to. Now, if you have to go to mid-town Manhattan or parts of Queens or Brooklyn, well, that can get a little hairy with a big rig. Good luck.
