Need help with paperless logs!!!!

He can do either. I'd usually do a combination of both, few hours off duty, few hours in the sleeper.

 

It is ok to log more than 10 hours in the sleeper. That is the minimum.

Some of the qualcomm's have a countdown meter on hours for the 8hr time period, he needs to take his 30 min off before the 8 hrs I believe. Then the meter resets for his available drive hours left.

Log depts cannot change drive times, usually, they may be able to adjust off duty.

He should have macros on the qualcomm that is used for communicating his load info to the terminal, etc. Did he get a list of those macro numbers to be used.

Kind of jumping the gun to place a company on a bad company list just because one driver doesn’t understand how to log isn’t it?

There are plenty of Martin drivers on here and I have never heard another one have such basic (and obvious) questions on logging. All but the Qualcomm warring should have been covered in his CDL school. Seems like this guy was just not paying attention in school or orientation and didn’t ask questions when he didn’t understand something.

 

If the FMCSA wants everybody on E-Logs they need to make sure companies are teaching their drivers how to use them.

 

I would think they would have some sort of booklet on the qualcomm with the macros in it too.

 

So now I have decided to give you my thoughts on electronic logs. It is all so much BS. If you make a mistake on the operation of your Qualcomm device you will get a notice from your employer that you had a violation on such and such a date. You sign it and they put it in your "file". No big deal. But before they send out your "violation" they have already changed what you entered to what you should have entered. You drive 14 minutes over, they correct that to make the actual violation go away. You do not have control over your own log books, the company does. Can't carry two sets of books, so it is their word that counts.

Qualcomm is expensive and going out of business in the next few years. With smart phones log apps are the next big thing. Big Road log books is something you will hear more and more about. The company I am with now uses it. It is just like doing your own log book but it knows when you are sleeping, it knows when you're awake, it knows if you been bad or good so be good for goodness sake. The thing about the new stuff is that it is really easy to edit. No need to keep multiple log books, just pull over and edit. It is not big brother, it may want to be but it isn't.

Finally, the thing that we all forget is that logging itself is unconstitutional as it makes you give evidence that you are committing a crime. That is a Fifth amendment violation. It is illegal to lie to a Federal officer so you should fill it out correctly. Just don't write down anything that puts you into violation.

Always remember that when in doubt, log it as off duty. Unless your dispatcher is a jerk and then you want to run out of hours. Logbooks are tools for drivers to use to keep from being overworked and underpaid. JMHO
