New to TTR...Bear with me please...Thinking about becoming a company driver with Roehl. Anyone doing dry van out of Florida that could give me a heads up on what lanes I might be running should I do so? I've got 2 years OTR and 2 years local but none of it recent. I've been checking out some of these threads and it seems most all the Roehlies are always running WI, IL, IN, OH, MO, PA. Is that about accurate? Or do you think they would run me SE a lot seeing as I'm from FL? Also what about SW and West? I'd love to run the whole 48 and not just stay around the lower Mid-West. I really just want to make an informed decision before jumping back in. Thanks drivers...See you out on the road

If you go national, you will run mostly everything east of I-35. North and south. It all depends while your out where you go. Sometimes you end up getting stuck in a region. But as far as going west, don't count on it.

Last I heard 14/7 hometime fleet is only thing available out of FL that Roehl offers now. And if your wondering what that is, 14 days out 7 off, slip seat between 2 other drivers. I did it for a while and went everywhere Bayle said. That fleet is on a rotation. I would imagine after Christmas having 30 drivers without loads to go home with for the holiday and rent vans to car pool they decided to cut back on hiring out of FL. They get me out and home in Orlando whenever where ever all the time so. As far as companies in FL depending where u live they're not bad but with your experience IMO you can do better depending on your MVR, criminal history etc that I don't care to know. I have almost 3 yrs OTR and only recommend this company for people that need a starter or more experience.

Thank you for your replies. Actually, I am finding that my options will probably quite limited as the experience I do have is more than 10 years in the past. I guess that is the insurance companies at work. I'm having a hard time finding a company that will take me without a refresher course. Unfortunately, there aren't any CDL schools nearby. Very few companies even offer refreshers, either. I don't think I would even need one except for maybe the recent changes in the HOS regulations and I guess a little range time wouldn't hurt. Ideally, I would find a company with a short refresher course and test out to be assigned a truck. I would like to avoid a LOONNGG drawn out period with a trainer, if possible. I have kept my CDL totally clean with a current DOT Medical card and all endorsements except passenger. No tickets, accidents, or criminal history of any kind. I've found these forums very helpful and appreciate the feedback.

Well if you do decide Roehl you'd go to basic orientation and trainer. 1 week orientation and 9 days with trainer, since you have experience and you catch on quick they might have you do less with a trainer and test out. I have a friend that wants to go Roehl but he said they only have 14/7 out of jax. The website has a zip code locator to tell you what's available for your area. If also if you haven't already look into Heyl and Epes. The only kicker for them two is recent time behind the wheel but you'd have to call and ask. We have national drivers all over FL but freight demands depict how many or when they put people on for that. Maybe you can switch over to national after 6 months 14/7 but that's something you'd have to work out with Roehl.

Thanks for your help coop. The website shows National flatbed in my area. I didn't really want to go with flatbed, though. I applied on one of those websites like ziprecruiter.com or something like that. Roehl had posted a dry van position in my zip code. Basic orientation and 9 days with trainer? I could deal with that...If I could get on National Dry Van, that's like 21/3 or 14/3, right? What fleet are you in?

Well, I just spoke to Melissa in recruiting. Not going to happen without attending the full CDL school. With no experience in the last few years I am out of luck. I must say I'm getting a little discouraged here. I don't see paying 3 grand to attend school again. I need to regroup and see what my options are. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

Hmm, surprised they would make you go to the full school. As far as the cost, if you contract with Roehl for a year, they will eat the cost. All you have to cover is hotel, license fee, food, etc.

well I don't think I would have to pay the license fee because I already have a license. I really would only be going to the school so that they would hire me. I guess it could be a last resort if I can't find someone else that would be interested in either giving me a refresher or hiring me out right.

I don't blame you, research this forum ask around and maybe go on foot to places in town and see what's out there.
