I try and drive fast enough the tires stay hot and melt the ice down to the pavement as I roll. To each their own.
Balakov100, Dinomite, pattyj and 6 others Thank this. -
Or just park it. No load is that important. I sat on a load for 3 nights in West Memphis earlier this week because the roads were solid ice. DM was trying to pressure me to move, but I wasn't having it. She kept telling me "they're waiting, they want to know where it is, etc." Come Thursday morning when I got it there, I had to wait for them to unload a truck that has been sitting there, in a bad neighborhood in North Little Rock, since Monday to get unloaded because they haven't been unloading trucks all week. Trust your judgement, never let a DM or dispatcher push you or pressure you in to driving in conditions that you don't feel safe in.
SupertruckerJK, Numb, Puppage and 8 others Thank this. -

I whole heatedly agree with Triad. There is no load worth getting in an accident, or worse, injured for.
i leave it to all my driver's discreation on weather they feel safe enough to operate during bad weather.

I'll have to get with my people in Dallas (who had numerous trucks running across 40 during that period) and see but 3 nights???? I understand TN and AR does not have a lot of ice removal means and what occurs, sticks around, but wow. If I had to shut down for 3 nights, I'd probably have ... never mind. If you say it was icey for 56+ hours and unsafe for travel, I suppose I will take your word for it. So, no one was running between Little Rock and Nashville during that period??? Freight movement stopped for 3 days?? Wow, I guess I dodged a bullet.
Dinomite and double yellow Thank this. -
The point is that the driver felt it was unsafe, and that should be enough.
I've seen, too many times, drivers trying to get through the wind and snow and ice, only to be rolled over by that one slick spot or that one huge wind gust.
The freight can wait if I don't think it is safe to drive, period.Raiderfanatic and pattyj Thank this. -
You'd think people would learn eventually......
