Little Eddy was a name I gave my dad when our relationship changed from father taking care of son to son taking care of father...he drove oil field vacuum trucks back in the 50's...he has to be ROTFL knowing I am going into OTR.

    A few questions:
I don't see how to subscribe to a thread or to a members post. I am reading a thread of a student driver who is doing their training and I am interested in trying to arrange to get their trainer when the member/poster is done with their training. For now I need to follow the thread and built up to 7 post so I can PM them and see if an arrangement can be made.

Surprised there is no ongoing thread where people explain the handle they use...I belong to a number of forums with a particular interest/theme and most all of them have this one thread...usually funny and it helps to get some insight into who is out there.

How many OTR people don't rent or own a home but rather live on the road? How do you deal with the DMV insisting on a physical address? The reason I ask is it appears to me a co-op ownership of a single apt in a state like Nevada where there is no state income tax might be something people would be into if they are like me unattached and desire to stay on the road as much as possible. Just curious is all.

Well I am really glad I found this forum and look forward to posting some but mostly reading and learning from those who are where I want to be.

ok here is another question...how do I say thank you for a helpful post? The thread has some comments that really express what I would say if I was to say something and I want to agree but can't find the option...is my eye sight really that bad? Had my eyes tested last week and again today at the DMV I was told I am good to go so where is the option to give a shout out?

Still learning how to navigate the forum...

Also I have lost the page where I can access threads specific to individual companies...I found it twice and on the second time I thought I had it figured out but now I am at a loss as to what I did to get there last time...do I need a GPS to navigate the forum or am I just exceptional thick?

Well somehow the thank you icon has appeared...do features of the site grow as your post count increases?
Forget the the first part of the last question.

    See how you are?
What is it about software enginers or site designers that about the time everyone can find where the cork screw is they decide to clean out the drawers and move stuff around? Is it some kind of OCD thing or are you all just that evil...lol.

Thanks for your info, and like you said all those questions resolved as my post count reached the threshold of functionality. So I got my subs and I thanked someone...now if only I could avoid open range land at dusk life would be perfect.

Glad to be here and look forward to learning about the Black Swans of the open road.

I too am in a situation like you described. I will be using a family members address for the things like that. But the idea of "moving" to a different state could have it's benefits from a financial perspective. But then one would have to make sure the state is reciprocal with changing license over etc. The more I'm think/typing this out, it might be more of a pain than it's financially worth. haha

Not sure what the situation is for a Razorback but here in the Silver State there is no state income tax. That alone is 6% of your gross, $3000 out of $50K.
I am in Reno and besides truly being the biggest little city it is clean, relatively inexpensive plus there are all kinds of different outdoor activities at your doorstep.
For driving Reno is on I-80 and there are a number of terminals in the area as well as one of the prime east west rail lines. Trying to avoid California taxes a number of large distribution warehouses have located to the area. I use a mail box service but the DMV wants a physical address so therein lies the rub. Not renting increases my take home considerably.

Yeah, here in Arkansas it's 7 percent on anything over $32k. No income tax in the state of Texas and I have family in that state as well. Maybe I need to switch addresses. That'd be 3500 extra on the paycheck just for changing addresses based on the 50k example.

What does the DMV do if you literally don't have a physical address I wander? There has has to be some kind of exemption for someone who can prove they are truly living in a homeless state.

I asked this question today at the DMV here in Reno. They told me that as long as you stay out of the state you can be listed as living in a motor-home but that if you spend any degree of time within the state then you need a physical address. I mentioned that if you are never in the state how are you able to maintain residency and how do you retrieve your mail? The person working the counter was named Yossarian I believe. Made no sense to me but then it is the DMV; where common sense goes to die.

Sounds like Texas is the way to go and as you pointed out the savings in state tax will just about pay for the move. Of course you're stuck with the Big 12 and Jerry Jones but then life is not perfect.
    Who do you drive for?

I drove locally for 10 ish years in two different states... North central Arkansas and Dallas/Ft.Worth Texas area. Dallas was actually the first place I ever drove a semi at 21 yrs old. Scary times those days were. lol
Took a 7 year break from the trucking industry, now working on getting on with Tyson.

    What about you?
