Actually, there have been numerous regular booms & busts in Texas.
Some bigger than others but all require people to pack up and go elsewhere when all the drilling stops (which it eventually always will).
My primary point was that if a person wants to follow oil & gas booms, he needs a tent or travel trailer, no reason to uproot the family because it ain't gonna last.
Great jobs in Texas

F.Y.I. This is not a boom/bust situation. One of my family members owns XTO (and yes he is a Billionaire). He told me that they will be drilling for the next 20-30 years, so anyone who is of working age can have a lifelong career down here in the Barnett Shale. Bring the family !!!!!!!fadetoblackmm Thanks this. -
The question is, do they pay decent? I'm here in texas(with a cdl) looking for a job. Please elaborate a little more? thanks.....

I drive a bulk tanker...cement mostly. Pay averages 25% of the gross for a company guy.
Most loads pay at and above $200.00 gross to the truck for a D/FW local trip...30-40 miles from the cement plant. An average week is $650.00 gross...when business is slow like now. During busy times...there aren't enough hours to get it all done. Figure twice the $$$$$.
I hear oilfield water tanker guys are paid hourly with most bringing home $1000-$1200 a week.rookietrucker Thanks this. -

F.Y.I many many billionaires have went broke on these boom and bust situations all the while thinking they would never see another poor day( Not insinuating your family will)..google and study your oil patch history and how many big money oil folks have went under....I'm not talking about either political party being good or bad but I know for a FACT that in Rock Springs,Wy there are tumble weeds in the street and you can't BUY a job in the oilfield during the time Democrats are running the country and fuel is always lower and you can't hide well enough to NOT have a job in the oil patch when the Republicans are in and fuel is always much higher.I used to live off that cycle and I can tell you its the truth.Check your history if you think I'm spinning you.And don't gouge me about your fave team because this post is totally apolitical. -
Please keep your posts/comments for the political threads. If you haven't noticed. This thread is under TRUCKING JOBS. Some of us are actually looking for leads in this section. Thank you and have a nice day......

I'm well aware of where I posted "rookie"...The gentleman was talking about this not being a boom/bust situation and possibly affect someones thoughts of moving his family for work.I think I posted in the right thread but would have no probs if a moderator deleted my post if they think its in the wrong hole. And it was posted apolitical as mentioned and the only reason politics were mentioned was to show the cycles which you can verify many different ways if you'd care to.Please study a bit more before you try and talk to me if you don't mind as it would be more enjoyable for both of us.Thanks and may you have an even better day. -
Sorry to dig up an old thread but what are the chances of a newbie getting a job in the oil fields, i plan on moving to the DFW area early next year from england (big move I know) i was going to get a job for a few years until i was 21 to go OTR but if i could get a job in the oil feilds i would be prepared to put my self through driving school. Any help or advice is welcomed. thanks
