    Huh?
I never said anything about being paid an "awesome hourly salary" to secure a load.
It's my truck, and I am on percentage. The company trucks are on mileage, and they get whatever they get for mileage pay. Dont know, dont care.
I know I got $300 to tarp the current load, and it was one machinery tarp (16'x26' tarp). So the one company driver that came out here got $150, for half an hours work, or in his case, a days work as he isn't the sharpest chisel in the toolbox.
On top of his mileage rate, he got the $150 to tarp it, and $660 in OD pay, on a 2500 mile run.So an extra .32 a mile in OD and tarp charges alone. Load was 102k lbs gross, 10'8" wide, 15'4" tall, on 6 axles. Took 6 binders, or 8 if you are like me and want to over achieve on everything securement related.

I wish they would pass a law that requires a WAGE for load securement...tarp or no tarp...its work and drivers should get PAID for their work!

This seems typical of today's society, they want big brother to do everything for them. They don't seem to realize the only person responsible for their actions are they themselves.

It's the law of supply and demand. If they can't get enough drivers because their pay is too low they will have to raise it to attract more drivers to meet their supply problem.

Too many people willing to do it for free.

If you want to get paid to do it then quit doing it for free. So many whine about doing extra work when you make your own deal when you get hired. If you agreed to do it for nothing.. then guess what... thats what you agreed to do. Complaining about how cheap your boss or company is, yet thats the standard people signed on and agreed to perform their duties at.

People say they have integrity and principles. Yet they are willing to work for chump change and ignore any kind of pride they thought they had. Then complain about how bad it is like its not their own fault for working under those conditions.

We are our own worst enemy. We'll under bid the next guy just to get the job and then complain about how low the rates are and how some one should make a law to prevent such low rates. Yet we created the problem in the first place.

    Tarping Opinion.

Well, I think flat bedding includes the following.

    Strapping.
    Chaining.
    Binding.
    Twist lock containers.
    and all include tarping.
Also, accordion fabric covers flat beds.

I get 100% of the tarp fee. I actually get to see some of the invoices and so far they have been spot on. Current load paid $300 to tarp. Took 3 tarps and was a pain, but well worth the money being paid IMO.
As far as being paid to secure I figure it's all part of the overall load pay. Being on % instead of CPM works well for me. If the load doesn't pay enough for any aspect of what I have to do (secure, tarp, untarp and drive) I say no to it. Other than that I shut my mouth and do my job.
