Sleep and get paid

Don't be naive.
The reason WallyWorld pays/treats their drivers so well is because of unions.
If an individual store organizes, Wal-Mart can simply shut the store down and contain the problem.
But if the drivers unionized?
Wallyworld would be screwed because any shutdown/strike would affect their entire supply chain.
So they pay/treat those guys well to keep them from signing cards.

It's basically what a Teamster OTR gig would be like: hub miles, pay for waiting, pay to sleep in the truck, pay to drop/hook trailers, generous hometime, etc.
If not for unions, that job would be a typical coolie McMega hauler joke: .30 cpm on HHG ripoff miles, no pay for waiting, out for 2+weeks, etc.

It's the same deal in LTL...the non-union LTL's pay close to union scale to keep the Teamsters out.
OTR is a ###### job precisely because there's no unions.
Say if JB Hunt and Swift were organized, Schneider, Knight and other large non-union carriers would have to payup.

And now you know the rest of the story...

 

Good point...it comes down to economics and competitive pay. Got to say, Wal*Mart is smart that way.

 

My dad is an "actual" Walmart driver. I can tell you from experience he works Saturday to Friday, usually home by Thursday. He doesn't go back to work until the following Saturday. That's a week off. He gets his 70 every week, gets paid for EVERYTHING he does, and averages $60k/year. I just applied. Work half the year and get paid for a full one? Sign me up!

Swift pays you to sleep...I fell asleep at the dock woke up 5hrs later..was empty and paperwork was in my door handle..next week I had detention pay in my check ..lol

 

I need to find a company who pays you to sleep.................I can give them a solid 12 hours every night.

 

Must be nice! Wait until you're a bit older. You'll have to get up to pee at least 4 times in that 12 hours. . .
