I LOVE driving through areas where people are using their fireplaces in the winter time...for many people in the south that's how they survive winter. If EPA gets their way how will poor people live? I really detest propaganda and that's what that radio ad was all about. Grrrr!

For what it is worth, in California in the high density urban environments on cold winter nights in the valleys near Los Angeles and San Francisco the air can get trapped and not move, and so when people burn their firewood the smoke gets really dense, and people with respiratory problems will have a hard time breathing, and many end up in the hospital, and a few die, and that is why they call the "Spare the Air" days. The poor people can use natural gas or electricity for heat, which is cheaper for urban dwellers than firewood. The people that tend to burn firewood in California cities tend to be at least middle class with homes that have fireplaces, they are not the poor people living in small apartments.
I find it amusing that people on this site always seem to take shots at California, but out of necessity California has led the nation in ways to reduce pollution. It is kind of amazing that there are far more cars and trucks in California now than in 1970, but the pollution is far less. Idling trucks overnight at truck stops is also a stupid idea, my idea would be to require all new trucks to have an electrical outlet and require truck stops and ports to be required to provide power to the trucks. I have heard that Europe is seriously looking into adopting the same regulations as California has, and I could see several other states following. OK, continue with your California bashing.daf105paccar, BobcatVolvo and Dewey120 Thank this. -
And You probable think that Nancy Polosey (we have to pass this bill before we know what is in it) is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Yes, it can be a problem in urban areas, and there are a lot of poor people living in urban areas, but I was really speaking to people living in the country.
Often times what California wants or more specifically LA/Orange counties, tends to become the law of the land in America.
My hometown of Waterford Ireland had to close their glass manufacturing b/c of California banning lead crystal. If it can't be sold in America, companies can't survive.
I refused to move to California in the 70's b/c of the air pollution. I am very impressed at how clean the air is now. Good job CA. -

Except the thing that would do the best at cutting pollution. You know that thing called mass transportation. Went to the Rose Bowl this year and was shocked at the lack of options other than driving with all the other idiots on the road.D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

California passed a law several years ago requiring truck stops to supply electrical outlets for trucks so they could run their AC unit. Virtually none of them have. They basically told the state to take a crap and die. the law is still on the books. Obviously no one wants it.

April 24th there is a board meeting. Spoke with a carb rep today, and was told after after the meeting it would take another another several weeks for the changes to be passed as law officially. Also, she mentioned the deadline for retrofitting from small fleets would be 2016, currently 2015..adding another year to the law... Good news for me and my 2003 t600!
