I agree as well. Being frustrated or cynical is not the answer for drivers who really know better.
Even helping another driver out, its like second nature.
That one wide load I was being a pilot car for San Antonio way. It was getting late so I called ahead reserving two spots at the TA. I paid for parking he bought dinner. I had just met him outside of Dallas talking on the CB . when we did park he was an OG in his late 60's. Still gear jamming. It was a nice chat over dinner. Probably be along time before I see that KW again. Hopefully we still have good truckers left and some up and coming. -
I can assure you some guys my age 21-25 are not part of this population of idiots. Couple of my very few friends are young flatbedders. Chains in the rack tarps in the box trucks as clean as possible at the moment. Get out on the road and ride kinda old school type drivers. I'm tired of just because your 25 means you don't know anything. Driving is driving weather your 25 or 65. I'm trying to make a living like everyone else. But I'm also trying to carry a professional attitude. I'm just tired of people young and old rookie or seasoned. Making us all look like dirty clothes wearing none bathing slobs. Flatbed or A van It's Ridiculous

I could bet. I've parked next to you and never known it. Its the pride, and drive that I feel a lot on this board have. Raised right, pride in there work as well as equipment.
Maybe this lull in or industry is like. "New years resolutions of going to the gym"
The rookies who feel forced to drive will leave to go back to there previous profession.
On a side note Cluck Cluck. I'm 45 I tried to hang up the mic. But I enjoy the challenge of different products, the change of scenery. As well as a group of drivers you become acquainted with over the years.
Hell. I found out. Its a Crane migration festival here in this sleepy little town. Just might go sight seeing. -
They had a thread to 90 pages, 90 freakin pages, about a guy recording his dispatcher trying to force him to drive tired. I saw the opening post, didn't even bother playing the video, and thought, "Must be a doorslammer." But even in my doorslammer days, I didn't have anyone pressuring me.
Had two drivers pull oversized out of BC. Chain law was in effect for Snoqualmie (spelling?), big storm riding through. They stopped at a casino around Everette. Next day, one of them took off for the TA on 90. They sat for another day and then suddenly, there was a small break in the weather, and they lifted the chain law. The driver at the TA phone the other in Everette and told him he was going for it. He made it over the pass. By the time the other driver made it to the TA, chain law was in effect for another 3 days straight. I then get a phone call from the driver who opted to stay in Everette crying because he was stuck under an OD and won't be making a check, and his dispatcher didn't have time to hear his story.
Someone made mention of the length of Lefty's (Martin's) trip, and Martin is asking about PA regs, because he was trying to avoid those pesky metro curfews. And the gang stepped up to help him out.
Exactly!
No fear mongering.
Gave the driver exactly the info needed and nothing he didn't need. I get sick of the cowardice. When the ice storms and snow storms kept pounding the southeast, we were there too! The difference was if the roads were open, we were going for it.
"I'm going to orientation at Moron Trucking. What should I pack?"
Seriously?
Could be that your friends are all stupid. Birds of a feather? All the stupid friends I had died out in middle school. Protected the herd. -
Beckley, Wv. Should be in Roanoke tomorrow morning.
SHC Thanks this. -
Triplesix, notice all his replies are about " I had a friend this and that" ..... Makes you wonder how he has so many stupid friends?? Must have been three for one day in the Pilot parking lot
