Any ideas for driving schools. I live in Middle TN area, and getting back into trucking. All the companies tell me I need to take a one week refresher course. The school in Lebanon, TN told me $2000.00 and the ones I found in Murfreesboro, Nashville, Cookville, and Knoxville said they only do the normal CDL course. The companies I am talking to tell me that they don't offer a refresher course---I just don't see why I need a refresher course when they will make me go through the training.

Its just the way it is with the trucking industry. If you've been out of school for more then 90 days you have to take a 40 hr refresher course..Crazy I know,,but it is what it is.
Good luck -
It's an insurance thing

In Lebanon, was that R.E. West you checked with on their refresher?
Western Express
National Carriers
Big-M Transportation
Paschall Truck Lines
Millis Transfer would be worth going thru their entire training program because those drivers average $50K per year. -
Do you have any experience at all?

Prime has a refresher course as well

What companies offer refresher course? The only truck driver school close to my place that offers refresher is Lebanon, Tn and they charge 2,000. The other schools only offer 3-4 weeks for CDL. So looks like I need to find a company that offers it free. I know Western Express say they do for free, but all I hear from their drivers is to stay away that they will be going to another company.

you might want to try going to some of the trucking job sites-CareerBuilder-EveryTruckJob.com ,etc. and use CDL Refresher Course as a keyword. I know there's quite a few that offer them, but they usually do it so you can work for them. Or, just start calling company recruiters and ask..

Not entirely certain. May depend a lot on when your last verifiable OTR work was (how long you've been away from OTR) Best thing to do would be narrow down to some of your preferred choices and make some calls. Call recruiters in the main office as opposed to some freelance recruiter you may be aware of.
