For a few weeks now in a coast or float, with tranny still in gear it makes a growling/grinding noise. Not sure what is causing that. Now last couple of times I have been backing up an incline it tries to come out of gear and grinds. Any ideas what would cause these problems. My dad said the growling sounds like a bearing.
another 13 speed problem

bearings most likely, very common to fail
-
How hard is it to rebuild one and what's a kit cost?
-
Does the noise change at all while driving like on rough roads with suspension movements. Make sure your suspension height hasn't changed any. That can put you're driveline in a bind and growl at you. Neutral or in gear it sounds horrible.
puncher and cumminsISB Thank this. -
Check the spring on top the trans at the back, coming out of reverse only on an incline says mount trouble to me the whine or growl in a coast says the same if the rear is dropping. be certain to check the bell housing bolts they are bad to come loose and cause several different anomilies
puncher Thanks this. -
No sir. Only does it in a coast, no change in sound on different surfaces.

Is this spring external, like a mount. Just changed the engine mounts 2 weeks ago. Will crawl under and check those out sometime in the next couple of days.

Could be the x-y splitter. If it is it's not s cheap fix but when it fails you're sitting.
-
Yes he's talking about your rear transmission mount across the frame rails with springs on it. Check your slip yokes and make sure it's not almost compressed all the way. Wore out is thinking like I am on the driveline getting in a bind

I thought they did away with those. Are they on top of the tranny? Thanks for all.the replies.
