re-route on US 20. it's safe for big trucks through the whole area. rt 6 is also safe; but considerably more likely to be congested due to the turnpike being shut down.

The storm we got today wasn't pretty, and I'm on the opposite side of the state. So it's not so surprising that the turnpike had it's incident today.

I got to say, I left Stony Ridge that morning headed west, the road was terrible, no salt and too much snow coming down for the plows to keep up. I drove slow and made it unscathed. I had 1 idiot pass me going 65 or 70, it would have took him 2 miles to come to a stop, I guess he beat the odds and made it

My sympathy to the famillies of the deceased. Unfortunately truckers dont have the luxury to shut it down for every bad weather situation.
However when i see images like the ones of this accident i am almost embarrassed when i see a Clump of CMV's all wrecked together like that.

I think "Pack-riding, tailgating and Trying to make time in adverse conditions" always ends up that way.

I was out on RT 20 between Fremont and Perrysburg about the time that wreck occurred and it wasn't fun. There was only one lane close to open and it was way slick, snow and ice covered.

An update on the turnpike wreck I heard a day or two ago on the local evening news said that the state patrol is claiming that truck drivers were mainly to blame.... Normally I would call BS on such a statement but as long as I've been out here and the large number of "truck drivers" I see driving like their hair is on fire in that type of weather, I could definitely see how trucks all clumped together, running way too fast for conditions could have caused or at the very least contributed to such a large wreck.

Just saw this post about this accident and wanted to add my first hand account. I was at the very front of this accident, it was a blinding snow squall and the roads were horrible. I have lived and drove in snow my entire life so as soon as the snow hits, i back the speed way down. I came out of the whiteout to vehicles stopped in the road in front of me. I was going slow enough to stop and watched a trooper get out of his car and run to a couple of vehicles ahead of him. I knew at that instant this was going to be bad. I looked in my mirror and saw a semi coming full speed out of the snow and blew past me so close and fast it shook my truck. He hit the trooper car, pinned the trooper between two cars, killed one person and then also himself. The rest sounded like a Nascar pile-up, nothing but cars and trucks crashing into each other at full speed. I was so lucky that one car that got rear-ended by a semi, went under my trailer and hit my landing gear, but no damage to the trailer. It was not just the semis to blame, but speed was a huge factor by all vehicles. I have some pictures and if i can figure out how to add them on here i will.
