Hello, my name is Stan, and I have been driving a 10-wheel/10-speed flatbed for about 10 years. I drive for Capco Tile and Stone, in Denver, CO. I haul granite slabs around the state of Colorado. I do not go out of state.

I go home every night, I earn $19.50/hr., my employer pays 80% of my health insurance premium, I get 3 weeks per year vacation, and have a 401k plan. I earned about $44,000 with my overtime in 2007.

My question is: How are my wages and benefits compared to other drivers? I keep thinking I can do better, but lots of guys tell me to keep my mouth shut and keep my job.

    What say you?

Seems fair to me. Do you get paid overtime? The only important question I would ask, are you happy there?

Hey rockee. Yup, I get $29.25/hr. for overtime wages. Yeah, I guess Im happy. I probably wouldnt be at the same company for 10 years if I was'nt. Some days I wanna strangle my supervisor, but other than that its ok.

    Here is my truck:

I'd say stay with what you have, 30 years agI was driving ten wheeler working construction, I longed to be on the road, now with over 30 years of experience I wish I had stayed where I was.

Hey otter. Your opinion goes along with what most other drivers say. Thanks for your input.

The economy is really rough right now and freight is not what it used to be.... I'd stay put atleast until the economy is better and the freight is flowing freely.

The only thing I would have to ask is...... Is it worth it to you? As far as I would be concerned for me, I would keep doing it.

Unless you are miserably unhappy there, it seem like this is a very good time NOT to change jobs.

Think about the loss of seniority if you start over. Sounds like you have decent benefits there that you might not have elsewhere.

You will always have a supervisor of some kind or another, and like diapers they are quite often full of excrement, no matter where you are!

I know that running all over Colorado in the winter time may not be the most fun thing to do, but hell it's beautiful country 12 months a year. That is if you stay away from the plains. . .

(I was born and raised on the southeast Colorado plains, so don't nobody start raggin' on me here!):)
