I heard on a talk radio show on xm165 a few weeks ago where DOT was allowing mexicans to take the English proficiency test in SPANISH. What kinda crap is that?

Something is just not right here. Our kids have to have 2 years of Spanish before they can graduate! I think that if you can't speak english then you can't even read road signs. I've never seen a road contruction sign in Spanish. I say speak english or go back. If a driver was trying to warn someone of a wreck ahead of them they wouldn't understand and the result could be serious. I was also wondering how many company's have translators at the receiving gates?

What is discriminating about it? They don't want to have to take the extra time to teach the guy's something they shoould already know. If they don't know how to speak english then they don't need to be here. Hell, IMHO they don't need to be here either way.

If the white man say's anything about anyone else like "that balck man, or that mexican dude" it's considered racist even if it's not so matter how you put it, they still see you as racist. Oh, but when they look at the cop and go "that white boy did such in such" It's perfectly ok. This is BS beyond belief. I'm getting sick of it to the point that if I could sit out in the desert with a sniper rifle with night vision, I would just start popping them off as they try to cross. We really need to regain control of our country and stop letting these nitwit, burrito eattin' no english speakin' #######'s come in. Same for the rest like them china dude's! They see what's going on here so they say hey! We can do that and do it cheaper! Yea, BS products. That's why nothing is made like it used to be and doesn't hold up to anything. Then they talk our people into moving over there because they can save an ### load of money because of cutting American jobs. You know they can pay 10 to our 1 over there. People are so money hungry they don't realize what they are really doing and who they are hurting.

I dont know where you are, but here in California our kids have to have 2 years of a foreign language to graduate, not spanish specifically. If your kids schools dont offer anything else, I suggest you do something about it, or pull your kids out and get them in a better school.

With Wal Mart, Lowes, Home Cheapo and other stores having their signs in both I don't see it being too many more years before spanish road signs start showing up.

I took 2 years of Spanish in school back in 73-75, not many Hispanics in our area back then. The reason? I lived down the road from a large migrant camp. My dad and i used to sell them cars, bicycles and do repairs for them. I was promoted to translator and chief negotiator, they paid well and always in cash. It didn't hurt to communicate with the gals either. I think it's a good idea to learn their language, my daughter got a good supervisor job being bi-lingual.

While I agree with the "speak,,read, and write English", I feel the go home part is not quite right. If they are illegal, they should not be here, anyway. But if they ARE here legally, and they STILL can not speak, read,or write English, then THAT is the fault of our own government. Not being able to understand the English language is dangerous, especially to be a truck driver. When they are alone on the truck, how can they know that there is a back-up in front of them and they need to slow down? How can they communicate with shippers/receivers,clerks at the truck stops, or even the cops? If they get pulled over by an officer who is NOT bi-lingual, is the officer supposed to call for a translator, as well as back-up because this illegal is frightened and doesn't understand, which makes the cop uneasy? In that kind of situation, it would be very easy for the officer to get into an altercation, and then the press/public would be shouting racism. Border control is the answer, but how to acheive that is a difficult matter.
    Sorry about the rant, ya'll.:biggrin_2557:

I agree with simply. It's not just mexicans either. I work with a company that has many russians that drive and most don't know english for crap. I was with one that scared the hell out of me as he couldn't read road signs and didn't slow down or downshift properly when large downgrades were coming up cause he didn't understand the signs warning of them. So I don't care who they are. They NEED to understand the #### language.
