Dry van is leaking around a set of rivets.
Got on top today and there is some black sealer looking stuff on top of all of the rivets that looks to be drying out.
Is this stuff something I can get at Home Depot or Lowes?
Looks like it might be some type sealer for mobile home roofs.
    Trailer has aluminum top BTW.
Supposed to rain here tomorrow so I would like to seal it uo and see if it works.
    Thanks

Manus bond is what is used on trailer seams and repair. It comes in caulking tubes and choice of color. Other sealer types could work, but who knows how long it may last.

I found some caulk like stuff at Lowes, for sealing roofs. Said would work on alum as well.
Used to seal flashings and leak repair.
Might give it a try. Comes in tubes like. Thought about applying then speading over the old stuff with a putty knife.
Rains looks like it is going to hold off till later tomorrow. So I can try in the morning.
    Thanks once again.

anyone know a good way of testing the roof for leaks?

i have walked mine over and over and looked inside for daylight and had other mechanics look thru it

after a few weeks, it starts to leak again

someone suggested a smoke test, just thinking of the best way to do it

Someone on the outside running a water hose on the roof while your inside looking.

Get a huge roll of tar tape and a torch. Melt it to the roof on every seam. We use it to patch containers. Works pretty well

    thanks for the suggestions

tell you what i am going with, and i will let you know what works

firstly, everyone and their brother has put some type of goo on the roof, which makes finding the leak(s) more difficult, the surfaces have become hard and non-pliable and show signs of cracking.

so what i am going to do is conduct a smoke test using baby oil (a guy at an auto part store says this is what they use in dance clubs for effect)

the dry ice idea didnt seem like it would fit the bill, because the "fog" stays bottom and does not rise

i tried the baby oil in the house on an electric eye of the stove and it smoked pretty good

i will get back to you on the results

Could you use some type of water that reacts with black light?
