I never get bored with my route. Having to go down dirt roads all the time, and hitting pot holes, and farmers fields that allow for blowing and drifting. But that is what a code 82 is for.
Why don't I get bored? Because, the main reason being, I can sleep in my bed at my house every night. Plus, I have a lot of great customers which make it fun to go and deliver to every day. I have a few customers who are less than desirable, but it makes the day interesting.

My job is a lot like that too.
The other day I loaded barkdust at a small timber town lumber mill out near the Oregon coast and delivered it to a yard in the city of Portland.
After that I went to another lumber mill about 20 miles out of the city and loaded sawdust which I took to nursery farm another 20 miles out from there on a rural road.
I had to drive a 1/4 mile on dirt road and into a dirt floor barn and pump it out with my walking floor trailer.
We've had snow and rain so there was mud and I got stuck in the barn, turned in the interlock and still couldn't pull forward.
I was just getting started so I thought heck I'll just leave it in neutral and keep pumping out sawdust till it pushed me out.
Lucky for me it worked so I didn't have to go look for a worker to get a farm tractor to pull me out.
No boredom that day lol,and yeah going home at night makes a world of difference.

When you start thinking your job is boring, think about working a production line in a factory. I think you just might change your mind about your job. . .:yes2557:

Let me tell you folks how routine my job is. I pull the same liftgate trailer every day, its required on my route. once in a blue moon they give it to someone else. When a young female forklift driver at a shipper says " mark, this isnt your trailer" then you know your part of the Furniture in town :biggrin_25519:

Generalizing here. Most of those folks dread 40 hour weeks and sometimes a few hours OT per month.
Good for those folks sticking it out 5,10,15,20,25,30 years. Dealing with co-workers, Plant/ Warehouse Politics every work day, No thanks. Kuddos to those folks.

you can always drive a construction truck. where you run circles all day long. and who knows how many days you'll be running that circle. before you get another circle.

the pay and hours USED to be good. don't think i'd want to do it now.

my brother in law has worked for 2 different companies hauling oil. he's been running the same circle 7 years now. with an occasional break to new mexico. where he runs 2 circles.

I pick up at the same dock every morning in Ohio and deliver to the same dock at the Ford plant in Chicago 5 days a week, 50 weeks out of the year and some days I think I am going to go insane from the boredom. I've done it for three years now, occasionally changing routes, but basically the same pickup to the same plant. That's the downside. The upside is I know where every single cop hides, and I can time all 58 lights between the plant and the yard so I rarely have to stop on the way home. I know most of the people at the truck stops and convenience stores and that has it's own benefits like free coffee from time to time. I could probably drive US 30 between Ohio and Chicago in my sleep. Occasionally I take the dock workers donuts or Cinnabon or buy them a soda and they get me loaded/unloaded faster. I know most of them by first name and they know me.

    It's a tradeoff...

The thing I like most about my route is the wild variety of places I get to go. Last week I delivered to a dairy farm, a place that builds barges for use on the Ohio river, a rock quarry, a dude that has several old Case steam tractors and a Civil War era locomotive that he's restoring, and a maximum security prison. And that was just on friday. The prison was the only one I'd never been to before, and I hope I never go back. What a PITA.
