Pretty likely I think, depends on the humidity and temperature. I genuinely cannot think of another explanation quite frankly; and I have a good little bit of experience with HVAC in vehicles. Only because I'm a fervent believer in DIY and the first things that go on an older vehicle is the HVAC, and exhaust system. But it could be some benign thing, dunno too much about CMV HVAC- I can't speak from experience but again, common sense dictates that they're somewhat similar to a normal 4 wheeler.

EDIT- I would use copious amounts of white vinegar and scrub out my heater core/interior vent system and the smell would dissipate, and then a few months come back. I'd repeat the steps and it would follow a normal trajectory of build up and remission. There is probably a product somewhere that can permanently dissipate the smell- and I've tried several dozen, but none have worked permanently- yet.

Yeah; that's me, a Charmin rep on the side :biggrin_25512:

I would use a clorox bleach wipe on the seat, then a Charmin wipe on ME to cleanup. Just a handy tip- that has nothing to do with the original post.

    This isn't an older truck, it's a 2013 Volvo.
There have been plenty of colder temps, some of it damp, but I do keep things warm.
Either the bunk heater is going or the truck is idling with the heater on.

If it was mold or something, wouldn't the smell be there whenever the fan was on?
But it is only there when I turn up the heat.
As soon as I turn the thermostat down to zero, the smell goes away completely.

Someone else suggested a coolant leak was causing the smell.

I guess I'll have to put it in the shop again. Maybe someone there will have a brainstorm.

Wouldn't count on it, honestly think you might just have to deal with it.

I'm biased towards Volvo- I think they're great trucks; I say this from a user point of view. Great trucks in my most honest of opinions. But hey! I'm only 2 years in. My 660 ran as hard as I could expect it too and gave me more than what I expected out of it. With that said this sounds like a pretty benign problem- doubting highly it's the coolant leaking into your HVAC. Might be a fresh rubber seal? Maybe a little burn off on the heater core?

Either way, driver, I think you'll live :biggrin_255:

Another poster just told me he had the same smell and symptoms.
It was a pinhole leak in the bunk heater core.
That is the second one to mention a coolant leak, so I think that just might be the problem.

    I'll get it checked ASAP.

For now, and thanks for all the replies and help, I'm going to watch a little Doctor Who and go to bed.
Amy has a choice to make.

    Thanks all!

I have had a heater core start seeping and produce an odor before, but I wouldn't describe the odor as curry. Also years ago it wasn't uncommon for a mouse to carry food in to the truck, or die in the truck, don't rule that out, but here again, this won't smell like curry either. I don't know how rodent proof the ductwork is on a new Volvo, might not be possible... I know that there are companies that specialize in cleaning ductwork in buildings, might be worth a call to one of them for a suggestion. I have a short tolerance for an odor in a truck.

If it was a mouse the smell would be there all the time, and it isn't.
It is only there when I turn up the heat in the sleeper.
