If I have the cb hooked up to my ant with no swr meter I can use the built in meter and get the swr down to 1.3. It's a Wilson 5000 ant and the coax is a 12 foot mini 8 or whatever they call it. The grey one. I also have a cobra power Mic. But I can't get out very far. Then if I hook up a astatic swr meter that meter is way off. So if I adjust the cal knob on the external meter I can then get it down to about 1.3 also. But then the radio says ant warning and the swr according to the built in meter is over 3. Why is this.
problem with cobra 29 lx.

I suspect you are doing something wrong. Have you checked youtube for a video on how to properly check you SWR?

i had a similar problem turned out to be coaxial so i changed it and problem went away

Double check with a second external swr meter, the internal swr meters can't be trusted, and your suppose to be using an 18 foot coax. As far as the antenna warning on the radio, if you've had the radio tuned to the max, it will continue to come on due to its sensitivity, I've had my swr, checked by a few cb shops just to be on the safe side, and they mentioned the same thing about the warning light. My radio has the RFX75 with the antenna tuned to 1.0 on channels 1-40 and I get a loud and clear from miles away. I've had this radio for a good minute now and it hasn't lost its performance

By the way, the warning light still come on, but I ignore it now

Did you do a mod that effects the modulation or power on that radio? It can throw off the antenna warning light for sure. Check swr with an external meter and if it's good you can adjust VR6 until the antenna warning light goes out.

If the problems persist, I'd have it checked out.
