Of course they'll realize you're just a student right out of CDL school. They get a new group just like you in every Monday.

yea I know but I still worry cause you never know if u grind a lot of gears they might send you home lol I do good upshifting but for some reason I could not get downshifting down too good like out of 10 downshifts I would grind it 8 times 2 might be good

They'd probably be shocked if a student DIDN'T grind a few gears! lol

ok lol I'm sure they have people come in for orientation that has experience tho just hope there not expecting the same from a student everything I have read and heard about them I like and truthfully as long as I get around 2000 miles a week I can see myself with them for a long time I'm not a hog when it comes to miles but then again I wouldn't be happy with just a 1000 miles a week either you know

I was green as green could be when I went to McElroy right out of school. McElroy will evaluate you every second you're in sight, its a small property, with cameras, and a small town. You are ALWAYS in sight! ;) McElroy looks for honesty, progression, and a willingness to learn. They know most of you will have little to no experience. You're going to grind gears, you're going to mess up. Don't BS them and they won't BS you. Keep your nose clean, don't argue, and get your assignments done and ALWAYS be honest with them.

    RevKev Thanks this.

does McElroy hire most of the people that go to orientation or just a select few I'm asking because I was thinking earlier just assuming they take at least 10 people a week and 52 weeks a year that would be 520 people surely they do not go through drivers like that I also realize some don't make it through orientation but I figured if you made it to Thursday and esp Friday if u make it that long your gonna get a job offer right ? or would they keep you there all week and come Friday and not offer u a job?

The two in my class that didn't make if thru orientation were told Wednesday. One failed the road test. It's a simple test. Drive out of the parking lot, go down a basically straight road, a four lane, then turn around & come back. The other guy quit b/c he realized he simply could not handle the physical part if the job.
As for your 52/520 scenario...obviously, they don't don't have training EVERY week if the year, with breaks for holidays & such. As for driver turnover, it happens...everywhere. I left after six months, not due to any issue with MTL, but b/c I wanted to pull tankers. Guys leave or a number of reasons. Look, it's fairly simple --- don't worry about other folks; what they're doing, why they're there, why they left, why they didn't make it, etc, etc, etc! The key is to control the things YOU can control --- attitude, work ethic, job performance, listening, learning. The stuff you can't control? Cut it loose. You'll be fine.
