A little comic relief from the FMCSA.
This rulemaking examines four options:
Option 1: ELDs are mandated for all CMV operations subject to 49 CFR part 395.
Option 2: ELDs are mandated for all CMV operations where the driver is required
to complete RODS under 49 CFR 395.8.
Option 3: ELDs are mandated for all CMV operations subject to 49 CFR part 395,
and the ELD is required to include or be able to be connected to a printer and
print RODS.
Option 4: ELDs are mandated for all CMV operations where the driver is required
to complete RODS under 49 CFR 395.8, and the ELD is required to include or be
able to be connected to a printer and print RODS.
Seems the FMCSA is using the word "Options" rather loosely.

Doing what was mentioned above does not stop the 70 hr. clock and it doesn't stop the 14hr. clock.
EDIT: it DOES stop the 70hr. My mistake. But keep reading 'cuz everything else is accurate.
It just prevents your 11 from getting eaten up and keeping you at 400 miles or less per day.
Once the 14 catches up to the 11, going off-duty to take a pee won't change anything. At that point, the clocks are rolling no matter what.
If we leave at 0800, no matter what, we'd better be parked by 2200 or sooner.

Actually, doing that does stop your 70, it just doesn't stop your 14. -

That is fantastic Mr. Chuck Taylor but, your not the whole industry, are you..? Remember, there is not one rule that will work for all of trucking. I too have used ELogs/EOBR's and what not and didn't have too much of a problem with them, other than being called in the late of night to go pickup a load because I had been off 10 hrs. And the small problems of running out of hours at the wrong time, that no planning could have taken care of. Like I said, this rule does not work for every type of trucking out here so, stop blowing your horn, it works for you and that is great. This, for me anyway, is not about the use of ELD's vs paper logs, it is about the FMCSA/Government forcing another rule on our backs, yet change nothing in the way of safety. If anything, these things will cause more safety issues, at least until everyone gets over the learning curve, stands up to their boss's and smiles.newly crusin Thanks this. -

Grizzly, I really don't think that what you are talking about is the norm, anymore.... Not to mention, no one can fix the problem of "some" people not taking personal responsibility for their actions, or doing the right thing. There are always going to be people like that but, they are NOT the majority so, lets not put everyone in the same pot as them.newly crusin Thanks this. -
