Go to the cheapest school that's 160 hrs. or longer.
Some high quality companies may have a preference in schools. For example, if you want to work for NFI in New Jersey, talk to their recruiter on the website and ask if they hire students from EZ-wheel or Smith Solomon. Same for any company you're interested in.
As far as company sponsored training, if you're in the hiring area, look at Millis Transfer. Excellent school and drivers average $50K per year.
Make a list of companies you like so you can be prepared with any endorsements they may require and possibly even TWIC and a passport. You can start the application process as soon as classes begin.
More good companies that hire new CDL graduates:
Schneider Bulk
Trimac
Superior Carriers
SVTM
CTL Transportation
Melton Truck Lines
JBS Carriers
Watkins-Shepard (excellent company)Last edited: Mar 13, 2014
Manuelxenon Thanks this. -
More companies that hire new CDL graduates:
Shaffer Trucking
Mohawk Industries (Warren Buffet owns this company)
Maverick
Bay & Bay Transportation
WEL
Hogan
Transport America
Crete Carrier Corp.
Navajo
Roehl Transport (have their own CDL school & good reputation)
Since you haven't started school, you have plenty of time to look over these lists. You will probably be much more prepared than your classmates.Manuelxenon Thanks this. -
Thanks for your replay, but let me tell you,the nearest school I have wright now are ideal cdl, which I don't like, and EZ-wheels,they have two programs for cdl A,one is 1400 us,with only 15 h on the road, and 10 h of video and etc,and then other for 2500 which the difference that this one have more hours on the road,so,the other one is 1houer away from my home,in linden, wich is smith and Solomon ,I haven't contact them yet,but I think they have over 100 h on the road, but I'm still trying to finde cdl company sponsored,I'm located in garfield,nj,so I don't know where to start searching, your advice and experience are welcome, thanks!!!!!

I'm at a private company because I didn't have the money to do a community college, but if you have the money community college programs are supposed to be the best. Just cost a lot more.

i went to smith and solomon, a lot of good instructors. while i was there i seen an ideal student in a lot with us and the student was just driving in circles because his instructor fell asleep while he was driving. as for ez wheels i dont know how far you'll get personally because i seen their lot, a whole 3 trucks, bus/straight/trailer

Hi to all of you,let me tell you this past week,I went to MVC,and I past the 3 first tests, now I'm planning to go to smith & Solomon, they're asking me 150 upfront to hold a spot, plus 600 the first week, then,(sorry I forgot to tell you, whole program is 3000$),then after I paid 750$,I have 18month to pay the rest, but they offer a 160hours program, while EZ-WHEEL offer the whole program with 2525$with 30hours,course EZ wheels have a wide range from 500$ to 2525$, but honestly I think I'll go with smith & Solomon,I feel more confident with then, taking in consideration that everything depend on my efforts to learn the practice and road things,,OPEN FOR ALL YOUR OPINIONS!! Thanks in advance to everyone.

Time to start narrowing down the companies you're interested in. Check the websites and see if any endorsements are required. NFI Industries in New Jersey is one to look at plus all the others listed above.
