Non trucking related question, but something possibly up yalls alley....
If hot air rises and cold air sinks, why are the tops of mountains colder than the bottom?
Himself was asking, and also aksed where all the hot air goes, and i was intrepid enough to posit that it all resides within him.Corporal_Clegg Thanks this. -
Quirky DOT story of the day... get pulled in to the weigh station outside Portland, OR just after midnight on this rainy evening. Speed limit to and thru the scale is 03mph, and we were going a cool 02.
DOT officer stops us, steps out of his cozy office into the rain and says, 'Two things. First, when pulling in, please stay at the 03mph speed limit. Second, please turn off your headlights when pulling thru"
I just cant make this kinda stuff up.Corporal_Clegg Thanks this. -
The upper air is usually colder than the lower level due to the temperature of the earth itself, which raises the temperature of the air just above it. This warmer air is also denser trapping more heat. When the wind blows, the air molecules create friction on the earth's surface, which also tends to warm it up.
There are times when the warmer air does rise above the cooler, called inversion. This often occurs when a cold front comes through. The cold air drops, forcing the warm air up, often creating a cloud line. The warm air loses its moisture content as it rises, causing various forms of precipitation. One can see inversion in the process when on a mountain; one can watch the cloud level drop to the valley floor.flue, KMac and Corporal_Clegg Thank this. -
Did you also see the sign that says, "Vehicles turn off lights when approaching scale"?
It interferes with their ability to see your plate and run it thru the system.
As for speed? Quien sabe?
Perhaps running 33% slower might have bothered them!
Corporal_Clegg, flue and KMac Thank this. -
the headlights blind them at night.... also after midnight traffic is slow, and he just needed to stretch his legs to stay away.

I received a letter from a lawyer today. Apparently, somebody has filed a class action lawsuit against Stevens for violation of federal wage laws. Anybody know anything about this?

Hello All....I have a question for the group. There is a strong possibility that I will be running out of hours tomorrow in Ft Huachuca after my delivery...as far as I can tell the closest truck stop is the Loves in Benson, there is a Super Walmart but doesn't look particularly truck friendly from Google Earth. Anybody know of any hiding spots in Sierra Vista?.....Thanks
-
know as much as the letter says....
will it make it through court... your guess is as good as mine.
Since trucking is exempt from many of the wage laws, it will be a tough battle... but lawyers need work too.
