I started driving just in time to learn how to stay warm in sub freezing temps.

Tonight is the first night that the bunk heater isn't clicking away. It's only in the mid 70's and it's smoking hot in the bunk, even with windows down and vents open.

The company I drive for has a 25% idle rule to qualify for bonus.

Aside from idling, how to you stay cool in the middle of summer?

I have a 12V fan in the bunk across from my head up high to blow some air around..I even use it in the winter sometimes to keep the air moving. It'll help ya anyways and shouldnt kill your battery while the truck is off

Any new CDL grads or students reading this maybe should consider a company with APU equipped trucks.

Guess you're just going to have to Idle.
You can try all kinds of creative ways to save your company money.
There's only one thing that really works..they may or may not like it.

A trick that works pretty well as long as you're taking your break after the sun goes down. Before pulling out from the last break you plan to take before taking your ten, pull your bunk curtains and crank the AC in the bunk. After a couple three hours, your bunk should comparable to a refrigerator when you first shut down. This doesn't work if you're taking a break during daylight hours with the sun beating down or temps above 80 or so depending on other weather conditions.

Yes, in Houston or Louisiana, in May following a wet spring, roll down your windows to try and stay comfortable and get back to us how that went.

Refuse to work if they don't provide modern devices such as an APU, problem solved.

screw the bonus and stay comfortable.if you run hard, you should idle away with the a/c fogging your windshield and sleep without sweating. DO NOT BE JOB SCARED.they will not fire you and that bonus can't equate dollar with comfort and sound sleep.

chiprighter, Chinatown and Ann Eiffel Thank this.
