New Company Owner

    Hi All,
    i am currently looking to get into the trucking business. My plan is to manage two trucks to start off. I plan on buying 2 trucks and trailers cash in the next month. Authority applied for. I also have two good drivers who doesn't mind staying on the roads. I plan on paying them well. Especially since I don't have a large over head.
    i hear so many negative post about the trucking industry, gas, companies.
    I will put a lot of research into this before I gear up. Can anyone give numbers or suggestion on getting started on the right foot. Looking for the positive truckers that are out there!! Something has to be good.... I see truckers on the road all day everyday!!

    My experience at the truck stop is to make sure they always have a way to pay. Make sure your drivers have a credit card (make sure they understand it is for fuel and breakdowns only). The worst feeling was seeing hard working drivers break down or run out of fuel and have no way to pay for it. I worked at a petro for 5 years and saw it more than I should. It's tough to get going, but I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck to you and your drivers.

    Join OOIDA. Business organization for the owner-operator and small fleet owner. Only cost about $35.00 a year to be a member. The website is OOIDA.

    Check the Farm2Fleet website. They might keep your trucks rolling since they seem to have lots of freight connections.

    Drivers will make or break you, brokers can usually smell your negotiating skills a mile away, mechanics with no ethics will gladly make you part way with your money if you dont have some idea of what is going on.....
    That being said, not all is negative, you have to either think outside the box and or look for nitche. Theres lots to learn and alot of good people with good input and experience on here, the sucess stories were not made over night.

    Im buying a truck myself havent decided where to run it at. Leaning towards landstar or covenant.
