I usually avoid the I-90 thruway when traveling OD in NY because (IIRC) the permit is only valid for 24 hrs.
Does this 24 hr rule apply to the Mass pike portion of I-90 as well?
What if you happen to be on I-90 for more than 24 hrs....need to get a 2nd permit?

Also I-476 in PA does not require a permit until you get over 10 ft in width. Do I still need to banner up and travel during daylight only?

Okay... I'm at the house, and I do not have any of my gear with me. I had a similar question about Illinois (they dont require a permit with farm equipment) Just because you dont need a permit doesnt mean that you are exempt from the regs as listed in the provisions. Yes, you may not need a permit, but you are still required to follow the rules. Same hours, days, curfews...etc. I'm not getting on you, just warning you because Pennsylvania is tricky: Do not move until you read those PA provisions. In fact, you should see on one of the pages on your permit (is it 3 or 4 pages) that the permit is not valid without the provisions. There are 2 provision sheets that you have to have handy. One is that map, the other is the written regs.

Yeah, but.....the provisions are for state DOT roads right.....I didn't think they applied while on the thruways. I know the correct answer is to call the thruway authority but I just thought I would ask.

The regs for the thruways are normally either on the permit or the provisions also.

Rank, you have to be really big and heavy to need a Mass tpk permit. I was permitted at 12 wide and 85,000 and didn't need one. The Mass permit is pretty good too. 24hr running 5+ days a week with only a few area curfews. NY Thruway is 24 hour running as well, which is nice. FYI, If you're heavy they won't let you go over the bridge to the Mass Pike staying on the Thruway, you'll need to take 90 thru Albany and rejoin the Thruway where 90 does. Need EZ Pass for over 10' I believe. When I was running some OD loads from JFK to Boston, NY Thruway to Mass Pike was the way I went (I hate OD in CT).

So long as I get to the Penna Pike or I-90 before sunset I can run after dark with a mini overwidth load? For example, get on the PA Pike in Philly at 7:30pm and run all the way up to the Petro in Scranton after dark?
