I filled out contact info form online for TDI(Truck Driving Institute), someone called me I answered some questions and was told that he would be emailing an application which I should fill out and after I should call him with a $25 CC payment for them to do a background check. I don't understand why I should pay $25 before I'm accepted at the school and see this as a "red flag". Is this common and what should I do? Are they a Good School? This was the TN branch.

To do the background check costs money. If they pay for it and your background does not come back clean, you wish them to absorb the cost of the Background check?

You go online and request a background check on yourself. You have to pay first.

You are forgetting the time that someone has to take to also enter in the information.

Ok Mark, you may be right, but other schools(Sage, LCCC, N. Hampton CC in PA) don't ask for that, so I just thought it was odd..

Sure why not, trucking companies do background checks and don't ask for money.Wonder when this started.Back when I attended school I never had to pay for a background check.Don't even know if they did that back then.Alot of ppl go to truck school with bad things on their record so what do schools consider bad to get disqualified?

Agreed! The onus is on the company to do the check. They probably already have an established account with a firm that does the checks and all they have to do is enter their company code. Many companies do it that way. Who ever contacted the prospective student probably just wanted to make money for the company or sadly himself. BGC's are automatic and are normally done once they get our SSNs anyway. He shouldnt have to pay!

Im going to TDI in dallas on the 29th. I paid for the background check. I did my homework on the school, it seemed to be a pretty good school. I read bad things as well....as with anything you can choose to believe it or not. I chose TDI due to the low out of pocket cost to start....yeah there are cheaper schools but I only plan to get a CDL once, so screw it.

This may be rolled into the cost of the course. I looked at a few web sites for other schools and some do require upfront costs and some do not.

    Murfreesboro?

Tack it off as a desperate right off seeking employment.

You will not be able to write any of the tuition off.

Would you prefer going to trucking school with a few felons xD
