Here is something I found rather cool. I have only been testing it for a little over a week, and have yet to see any flaws compared to the GPS unit sent by Streets and Trips or Co-Pilots GPS unit. I am using the wireless card from sprint where I get my internet from. It now has a GPS built into it and the com port is sharable with other programs. Its the Sierra Wireless Aircard 595U. It has connection at the time of this post to 11 satellites and pings every second just like the other two GPS units. I don't lose signal from the GPS unless I am under bridges or tunnels just like the others. The cool thing is that now I no longer have a cable attached to the truck and the little USB unit that is inserted into the laptop now is also my GPS. Got the card from the usual TA Interstate Communications when i upgraded my card. I was tinkering with it and seen it had GPS, went into the store and told the guy and he was glad to hear it worked with the co-pilot, now maybe he will sell more for those who got there co-pilots bootleg. So now when I am home and anywhere my laptop goes, my GPS is there and no wires are hanging.

When you download there program and install it it also will update your position to google earth and anyone you give the address out to can log in and follow your truck in real time. There is a 40 dollar charge after the 15 days if you like it but think about it, thats the 40 bucks you would have spent for the S&T GPS unit.

Pretty neat thing I found out, wish I had heard it from someone earlier but seems noone knew. Now you all do, there is now an upgrade to the card I have, its alot smaller and is still USB. I have yet to have problems with this little GPS/Internet card but you will be the first to know.

Yes thats the one i am talking about.
It has been returned to the company
    They know they have problems
I am waiting to see how long it takes them to credit it back.
It was not as user frindly as a tom-tom or garmen
I am going to try the co-pilot unit as soon as they start selling it.
Co-pilot says they are testing it now
I like the co-pilot software but my laptop is takeing a beating going down the road even though i have a good mount under it.

Co-Pilot has a plug in antennae for the usb port on your laptop which gives you turn by turn directions (spoken too)via gps technology. This is the ONLY product SPECIFICALLY designed for the trucking industry. For 300.00 this is also affordable as compared to the other car designednavigation systems. I have seen many drivers mount there laptops to a stand or even to the top of the dash so they may view the display while driving. The best part is your laptop has a much larger viewing screen and multiple functions whereas these little 3 and 4 inch displays have 1 function (directions).

The answer to your question is Co-Pilot. That is the best software as of yet that is for trucks. Routing door to door, hazmat routing, and much more, just check out there website. Then again I may have missed something.

I read on here somewhere that co-pilot was coming out with a gps unit. I am trying to wait it out. I hear that it is coming out in May of 08. Hope they do because I really want me a gps unit.

I am thinking about purchasing something like the Qualcomm system, but its pretty pricy. Do you know if any of the competitors offer a system as nice as the Qualcomm system? I was looking at CarrierWeb, PeopleNet, Geologic, DriverTech & WebTech Wireless.

Any recommendations or knowledge about those systems or Qualcomm that can help me with my decision?

I’ll need a GPS. Something basic, easy to use, not too expensive and that doesn’t use a laptop. I found several models at Garmin website and retail stores. It seems that Garmin C340 is a good choice, but I’m not sure, since I never had one and don’t know much anything about these devices. Can anybody enlighten me? Also, the specs says, "no download capacity, and no hard drive storage". Forgive my ignorance but is that important?

I just ordered a Tomtom 720 and it will be here soon. I got it for $300 including shipping of of ebay. From what i have read i has a feature called "mapshare" that lets me block certatin roads ie. low clearance, non-truck routes, etc so when it routes me to a customer it wont get me in a sticky spot. I hope it works as advertised.
