I talked with Stevens Transport today, but could not get definitive answers on 2 questions, 1. Does Stevens let you take your truck home with you? This is very important to me, as my family only has 1 car and I cant leave it parked in a drop yard that is over 100 miles away. 2. Are they a team only company. I am a private person outside of my family, but understand that I will be with a trainer for 220 hours but I eventually want to be solo, any help would be greatly appreciated Thanx!!

Are you looking for trucking company CDL school?
What is your location; at least which state do you live in.
If they are avoiding answering your questions; not good.Whiteknuckle94 Thanks this. -
1. You can take your truck home but you must park it at an approved secure location in your town. You can't park it at your house unless its a lease truck
2. After you finish with your trainer, you do 3 weeks team with another new driver, then you go solo. The vast majority of trucks at Stevens are solo drivers.Whiteknuckle94 Thanks this. -
I agree with 8thnote with the exception that the training curriculum has changed slightly. The second "Trainee/Trainee" phase of going out with another new driver has been replaced by the new extended training time with a single trainer. It has been being phased in from a trial period for awhile. Instead of 5 wks with a trainer and 3 weeks with another newbie you can plan on spending 6-8 weeks out with the trainer or as long as it takes you to log your hours.
I would add that what is generally considered an "approved facility" does not mean truck stop nor your fenced in property if you live rural. It refers generally to KW, Peterbilt, Thermoking dealers who have secured parking. Occasionally you could get away with possibly using a storage facility for RV's and such but there is a process involved with getting a location approved by Stevens including pictures and etc...Whiteknuckle94 and 8thnote Thank this. -
Also, i believe if you live within 100 miles of the Dallas Yard, you must leave the truck at the yard when off. Since you haven't indicated your locale, hard to give a straight up answer.

I can't offer to much insight other then to say this. I have heard most people recommend attending a private school or at a local community college depending on your funds. If you go to Stevens you can no longer attend the school in Dallas unless you are a Texas resident. I was not so I was sent to Careers Worldwide for school in Keenesburg, CO. It is technically a private school but they have a funding agreement with Stevens and 95% of the students there are Stevens students who do not reside in Texas. I attended in Nov 2013 and did an in depth write up on which is posted in the Stevens section here.
Also, bear in mind that you are not paid by Stevens while attending school and you are not "officially" hired until after you attend Orientation, pass the psychical, drug screen, and your application is reviewed again. Graduating from the CDL school obligates you to repay the tuition but does not guarantee employment.Whiteknuckle94 Thanks this. -
KY has some real good deals on community college CDL programs and also some good deals on private CDL schools.
If you go to CDL school, Watkins-Shepard in Berea, KY will reimburse you for tuition. The company has an excellent reputation also.
You're in a good hiring area for some decent company CDL schools:
